The result applies to the benchmark edition and scoring reported by Sthānika; another leaderboard snapshot published a day earlier placed the same model fourth, so the ranking needs a date and source attached to it.
What Sthānika announced
Sthānika described Sieve 31B as a decision-focused model built for defined choices inside larger software and agent systems. In its October 16 announcement, the lab reported a Full score of 63.8, combining public and private tests, and a public-test Full score of 62.5.

What Sieve 31B does
A model for bounded decisions
Sieve is intended to read a question, inspect a supplied set of options and return a defined answer. It also returns a confidence score that surrounding software can evaluate. That makes it different from using a conversational model to generate an open-ended response for every small branch in an automated workflow.

Why a separate decision model can matter
Sthānika’s stated rationale is operational: repeated, routine choices may be handled more predictably and at lower cost when they are routed to a focused model rather than a larger general-purpose LLM. The announcement does not publish an apples-to-apples inference price or latency test, so “cheaper” and “faster” remain intended advantages to verify on a particular workload, not established universal results.
Confidence as a control signal
A machine-readable confidence value can let an agent system set rules such as accepting high-confidence choices automatically, sending uncertain cases to a larger model, or routing them to a human. The useful question is therefore not only whether Sieve selects the right option, but whether its confidence scores separate reliable decisions from cases that need escalation.
Did an Indian AI model really rank second globally?
Yes, that is what Sthānika announced, but the claim is edition-specific. A separate leaderboard snapshot dated October 15, 2026 listed Sieve 31B in fourth place with a score of 63.81. That table placed vLLM-SR d3 first at 66.26, linne-oak 1.0 second at 65.61 and Decider 31B third at 64.62.

| Leaderboard snapshot, October 15, 2026 | Fourth | 63.81 | Listed behind vLLM-SR d3, linne-oak 1.0 and Decider 31B |
Leaderboard edition, test composition, timing and scoring rules can change the displayed order. The defensible wording is that Sthānika announced second place on October 16, while another snapshot from October 15 showed fourth.

What the Jev Decision Index measures
The Jev Decision Index is described as an open benchmark for AI decision models. Its focus is decision quality on defined choices rather than broad conversational ability. The Full score reported by Sthānika combines public and private testing, while the public-test figure identifies performance on the public portion. A high index position therefore signals strength on this decision task; it is not by itself a measure of general intelligence, coding ability or performance in every agent scenario.
Can Sieve run on a private GPU?
Sthānika describes smaller Sieve 2B Plus, Sieve 4B and Sieve 9B Plus variants as suitable for on-premise GPUs, privacy-sensitive deployments and high-volume workloads. Keeping inference on infrastructure controlled by an organization can help when decision data cannot be sent to an external service, but the practical benefit depends on the model license, serving software, hardware utilization and maintenance requirements.
The available announcement does not state exact VRAM requirements, quantization options, supported runtimes or a hardware specification for Sieve 31B. Do not assume that a GPU capable of running one of the smaller variants will run the 31B model. Those details must come from the model release documentation before deployment planning.

- Define the choices. Write down the allowed outputs, required inputs and what should happen when no option is safe.
- Build a representative test set. Include ordinary cases, ambiguous wording, missing fields and adversarial examples from your own process.
- Measure decision quality. Record accuracy, abstention or escalation behavior and the quality of the confidence score, not just an average benchmark result.
- Measure operations. Compare end-to-end latency, throughput, hardware utilization and inference cost against the general-purpose model currently handling the task.
- Check deployment constraints. Confirm whether data can leave your environment, whether on-premise serving is required and whether the selected Sieve variant fits available memory and observability tooling.
- Set routing rules. Use confidence thresholds and fallback paths so uncertain decisions reach a stronger model or a human instead of failing silently.
Why the result matters for agent systems
Sieve’s design targets the many small decisions that connect tools, policies and actions inside an agent. If a focused model can make those choices reliably, a larger conversational model can be reserved for tasks that require broader reasoning or language generation. Bharat Lingam, PurpleTalk CEO and co-founder, said: “We believe decision models will open up a new category of agentic systems: more reliable, more controllable and fast enough for voice, customer experience and robotics.”
That promise still has to be demonstrated on each organization’s data. The Jev result establishes a notable benchmark position as reported by Sthānika, while production suitability depends on workload accuracy, confidence calibration, latency, cost and deployment requirements.
