India made 211/6 in 20 overs; Pakistan replied with 192, despite Hasan Nawaz’s 96 from 51 balls. The ICC reported the result on 3 October 2026.
How India won the final
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat. Abhishek Sharma’s 61 gave India an early platform, with Iyer making 21 and Ishan Kishan 20. Pakistan took wickets at intervals, but Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 from 22 balls supplied a late surge and lifted India to 211/6 in 20 overs, according to the ICC’s match report.

Pakistan’s chase: Hasan Nawaz kept the contest alive
Hasan Nawaz struck 96 from 51 balls, but wickets at the other end undermined Pakistan’s chase. His innings brought Pakistan close enough to make the finish consequential, but the team could not reach India’s total and finished 19 runs short. The ICC report describes the wickets falling at regular intervals; it does not provide enough detail to assign a specific bowler-batter advantage or quantify pressure.

Tilak Varma changed the shape of the total
Varma’s 51 not out from 22 balls came at the end of India’s innings and provided the late scoring burst that carried the total to 211. The available match report supports that broad sequence, but not an over-by-over comparison or a claim about an individual bowling matchup.
Nawaz lacked enough support in the chase
Nawaz’s 96 from 51 balls was Pakistan’s defining innings, but the wickets around him meant his scoring could not bring the chase home. The contrast was less a single one-on-one matchup than India’s late addition to its total against Pakistan’s inability to sustain enough contributions while chasing.

How both teams reached the gold-medal match
Both sides entered the final unbeaten in the event, but rain shaped their knockout routes. Their quarter-finals were abandoned: India advanced over Afghanistan and Pakistan over Hong Kong, China, because each had the higher seed. Each then played one completed knockout match before the final.

That context matters when assessing form: neither finalist had played a completed quarter-final, so the final followed a knockout path interrupted by rain rather than a full sequence of completed wins.

Final result and medals
