To check your name on India’s electoral roll, use the Election Commission of India’s Voters’ Services Portal or contact your local Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). If a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is active in your state, an existing elector should follow that phase’s enumeration instructions; if your name is missing from the draft roll, the applicable claims process may require a different form. The right route depends on whether you are already registered, applying for the first time, living overseas, or seeking a correction, move or deletion.
First, identify which stage applies to you
SIR is a phased revision, not one nationwide filing window. In the 2026 process described by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Booth Level Officers visit households, distribute and collect enumeration forms, and eligible electors may also submit forms online. The Commission then publishes a draft roll, accepts claims and objections, conducts notices and verification, and publishes a final roll.

- Check whether your state is in an active SIR phase. Use the latest ECI or state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) notice for your state; dates can differ and may be amended.
- If you are an existing elector covered by that phase, follow its enumeration instructions and deadline. The ECI says to use the previous SIR roll details if the service asks for them.
- After the draft roll is published, check your entry. A draft is not the final roll. If your name is absent or the particulars are wrong, use the applicable claims-and-objections process rather than assuming the enumeration form is still the right route.
- Follow the instructions for your specific case. The ECI’s 31 May 2026 Phase III release says an existing elector who misses the initial enumeration deadline may apply through Form 6 with the prescribed declaration during the claims-and-objections period. Confirm the state notice for the required declaration and timing.
An EPIC, commonly called a voter ID card, or having voted in an earlier election does not by itself establish that your name is on the current roll. Check the current entry and act within the relevant period.

| Your situation | Form or service | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Existing elector included in an active SIR phase | SIR Enumeration Form | Submit through the ECI service or BLO, following the state-specific instructions and deadline. Use previous SIR roll details if requested. |
| New general voter registration | Form 6 | The ECI identifies this as the application for new registration. It also describes Form 6 plus a prescribed declaration as the route for an existing elector who missed initial SIR enumeration, during the claims-and-objections period. |
| Overseas elector registration | Form 6A | The ECI portal identifies Form 6A for overseas voter registration. |
| Objection to an entry or request to delete a name | Form 7 | Use the official form instructions for the objection or deletion case. This is not the general-purpose correction form. |
| Shifting residence, correcting particulars, replacement EPIC, or adding PwD marking | Form 8 | The ECI FAQ and portal group these requests under Form 8. Check current instructions for the specific change you need. |
These are distinct routes: do not use Form 7 for an ordinary correction, or assume that an enumeration form replaces an application required during the draft-roll claims period. The ECI’s Voters’ Services Portal provides SIR-2026 and form services; a BLO or ERO can direct you to the instructions applicable in your area.

Basic eligibility for voter registration
The ECI’s general enrollment guidance lists these conditions: you must be an Indian citizen, at least 18 on an applicable qualifying date, ordinarily resident in the relevant polling area, and not legally disqualified. The applicable qualifying date and supporting instructions should be checked in the current ECI guidance. Having an EPIC alone does not guarantee that your name appears on the current electoral roll.
2026 SIR dates vary by state
The ECI’s published 2026 schedule divides states and union territories into groups. For Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur, the schedule lists draft-roll publication on 5 July 2026 and claims and objections through 4 August 2026. For Tripura, a later sequence lists draft-roll publication on 21 October 2026, claims and objections from 21 October to 20 November, and final publication on 23 December 2026.

Those are dates listed in the ECI schedule document, not a guarantee that no later notice changed them. Check the latest ECI and state CEO notice before relying on any deadline. Do not apply one state’s dates to another state.

The stated aim of a revision is to remove deceased, duplicate or otherwise ineligible entries while retaining every eligible elector. The ECI’s Phase III release on 31 May 2026 described its objective as: “No eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.” The dispute is over whether the process achieves both sides of that goal, particularly when an elector has to establish or correct an entry within a limited, state-specific process.

In reporting on West Bengal, the Associated Press (23 April 2026) described voters who said they had voted before but could not find their names, opposition allegations that the process disproportionately affected some people, and the ECI’s explanation that deletions involved deceased, absent, duplicate or ineligible entries. Individual accounts and political allegations should not be treated as proof of a statewide pattern; the Commission’s explanations should likewise be understood as its stated reasons, not a finding about every individual case.
A Government of India Press Information Bureau release says the Supreme Court upheld the legality of Bihar’s SIR in a judgment dated 27 May 2026. That concerns the Bihar challenge; it does not, by itself, resolve every implementation question in later state phases or establish the facts behind particular deletion complaints. For the precise legal holdings and any directions, consult the judgment itself rather than relying only on the government’s summary.

Where to get authoritative instructions
- Voters’ Services Portal: check the current SIR-2026 service and the relevant form service.
- State CEO notice: confirm the state’s schedule, active phase, local submission instructions and claims deadlines.
- BLO or ERO: ask how to handle an omitted or incorrect entry in your polling area and what evidence or declaration the applicable process requires.
The ECI’s voter-registration FAQ explains the general forms and eligibility conditions. For a live deadline or an individual claim, use the latest state notice and instructions from the responsible election officials.
