To loop prerecorded GTA gameplay videos as a YouTube Live broadcast, send the files through an encoder such as OBS. In OBS, add a VLC Video source, put your local video files in its playlist, and leave Loop Playlist enabled. A regular YouTube playlist does not create a live broadcast: the encoder must send the video feed to a YouTube Live event.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel eligible to stream live. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also states that live streamers must be at least 16. Check your channel in YouTube Studio; see YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
  • A computer that can play your local video files and run OBS, plus an internet connection. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard considers hardware and network conditions, but the cited OBS guidance does not specify a minimum computer configuration. Test a computer you already have before buying equipment.
  • GTA gameplay footage and audio that you are authorized to stream. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content, and a match can interrupt or terminate a stream.
  • OBS and VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, OBS says to install 64-bit VLC as well. The described local-file setup does not inherently require a capture card.

Set up a repeating playlist in OBS

  1. Prepare your files. Keep the gameplay videos accessible on the computer that will run OBS. Check that you have permission to use both the footage and its audio.
  2. Create a scene. Open OBS and add or select a scene for the broadcast. OBS’s Quick Start Guide explains adding sources, checking audio, and testing the stream.
  3. Add the playlist source. In the scene’s Sources box, add VLC Video. Add the local gameplay videos to its playlist. If VLC Video is missing, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
  4. Set looping. Leave Loop Playlist enabled to start the playlist again after its last file. Shuffle is off by default. For a single video rather than a multi-file queue, add a Media Source and turn on its separate Loop setting; that setting is off by default. OBS documents these controls in Media Sources (page dated 2022-01-11).
  5. Check the picture and sound. Inspect the OBS preview and confirm that the video appears and its audio is audible. Test the stream setup before relying on it for a broadcast, as OBS recommends in its Quick Start Guide.
  6. Create and connect the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio, start a live stream using an encoder, then connect OBS using the stream key provided for that event. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show or share it. YouTube lists encoders as a way to stream gameplay and overlays in its live-streaming guide.
  7. Verify the live output. Confirm the YouTube event preview shows the intended gameplay and that audio is present before leaving the stream running. A playlist looping in OBS is not enough by itself; OBS must remain connected and sending the feed.

Keep the playlist live: local computer or cloud

OBS with local files: This gives you direct control of the files and playlist, but the computer running OBS and its internet connection have to remain available while the encoder stream runs. OBS’s documented multi-file playlist source also depends on VLC.

Copyright and GTA footage: check before going live

YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the broadcast with a placeholder; if the material remains, it may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. See Copyright issues with live streams.

  • Use gameplay footage and music you have permission to broadcast. Owning a game does not, by itself, establish that you have streaming or monetization rights to every part of a recording.
  • A license may not prevent a live interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to the Content ID allowlist where required. Ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel if you have licensed third-party material.
  • Permissions depend on the exact GTA title, recording, and audio in your video. The cited YouTube and OBS sources do not establish a Rockstar policy for your specific material, so check the applicable game and music permissions rather than assuming all gameplay or in-game music is cleared.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to check
VLC Video is not available in OBS VLC may not be installed, or its architecture may not match OBS. Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then check the source list again.
The playlist stops after the last video Loop Playlist is disabled or the source is not the VLC Video playlist. Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. For one file, use Media Source and enable its separate Loop control.
The video plays in OBS but is not live on YouTube The encoder may not be connected to the live event, or the event may not be set up for encoder input. Check the YouTube Live event and its stream-key connection, then verify the event preview.
YouTube interrupts or replaces the broadcast A live scan may have identified third-party content. Review the notice and the video’s audio and footage rights. If material is licensed, contact its owner about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist.
The stream stops when you leave the computer The local OBS method depends on the computer and internet connection staying available. Keep the local setup running, or use a cloud playlist service if you do not want the computer at home to remain on.

Cost and equipment considerations

The OBS method described here does not require paid software or a capture card for local prerecorded files. It does require an available computer capable of playing the files and running OBS, along with an internet connection. Because the cited OBS guidance gives no minimum specification, test your existing setup rather than buying a particular PC based on an unsupported hardware threshold.
