Verify the internet connection
On the device running the encoder, confirm that internet access has returned and that it can send data outbound. YouTube recommends testing the outbound connection if the encoder appears healthy but the stream is not. If access is still impaired, contact your ISP; there is no single India-wide repair timeline. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance covers connection checks.

Check the encoder and video playback
Look at the encoder’s status and error messages. Confirm the intended prerecorded file is still selected and determine whether its playback is paused, stopped, or continuing from another point. Check for local audio, video, or software errors before sending again. YouTube also recommends checking the encoder output and its health information.

Verify the stream URL and key
The encoder sends video to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key configured for the event. Check that the encoder is using the intended settings. You do not need to reset or replace a key just because the ISP disconnected; change it only for a concrete reason, such as a compromised key or a start error. Reusing a YouTube stream can carry forward its metadata, settings, and key. YouTube explains how to set up a stream.

Resume or restart encoder output
Use the encoder’s own reconnect, resume, or start control to send output again. Button names and playback behavior vary by software, so follow the instructions for your encoder and version. Watch the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health while the connection is re-established. Do not assume that YouTube kept the original event active or that the file will resume on the exact frame where it stopped.

Check whether the event has ended
If the old event is no longer live, check YouTube Studio’s Live tab and decide whether to start or create another event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; an archived event should not be mistaken for an active live stream. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance describes stream behavior and archiving.

What to expect from the interrupted video
Restoring the network and restarting encoder output are separate from recovering the video’s precise playback position. YouTube’s general guidance does not promise that every encoder preserves a prerecorded file’s position through a disconnect. Depending on the encoder, playback may continue, pause, restart, or require you to select and seek the file again. Confirm the state in the encoder before going live again, and check the YouTube preview to see what viewers will receive.

Also distinguish a restarted encoder output from a resumed YouTube event: the encoder may be sending again while the original event has already ended. Check Live Control Room rather than relying only on the encoder’s connected indicator.

Prepare a recovery path before the next stream
- Test the encoder and connection together. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate before the event, choosing a quality that fits a reliable available connection, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast.
- Test failover deliberately. YouTube recommends checking encoder failover, for example by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable and confirming that playback moves to a backup encoder. This tests failover only; it does not prove you have configured a backup encoder or alternate ISP. An Ethernet cable is useful only for this controlled test; it cannot repair an ISP outage or guarantee uninterrupted streaming. See YouTube’s encoder failover guidance.
- Keep the event and encoder settings documented. Record which stream URL, key, event, encoder version, and file are in use so you can identify the right configuration during recovery.
Choose encoder settings for a stable connection
Set quality to match the upload connection you can rely on, rather than selecting a resolution or bitrate that the connection cannot sustain. YouTube’s current published recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use its table for the configuration you actually send. The guidance lists CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. These are encoder settings, not a universal bandwidth guarantee. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which is RTMP over TLS/SSL. It secures the connection; it does not prevent an ISP failure or make reconnection automatic. HLS is another ingest option for compatible encoders, but YouTube says its segmented delivery has higher latency than RTMP. The available guidance does not establish that HLS is more resilient to ISP interruptions. Read YouTube’s ingest protocol guidance.
