Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo restart a 24/7 YouTube stream after a power cut, protect both the streaming computer and the modem/router with backup power, set the YouTube stream to allow encoder start, and configure the computer and encoder to resume streaming after reboot. These are separate links in the recovery chain: a UPS or inverter covers local power, not an ISP outage, while OBS reconnect alone does not necessarily restart a stream after a cold reboot. Test the full sequence before relying on it.
What needs to recover after a power cut
A stream can fail at several points: local power may go out, the modem or router may take longer to restart than the computer, the internet connection may still be unavailable, or the encoder may boot without starting the stream. A resilient setup addresses each part rather than treating “reconnect” as a single setting.

- Local power: backup power for the streaming PC or encoder and the modem/router; include any required network switch or camera power supply.
- Network access: a working route to the internet. A UPS does not keep the ISP’s service or upstream network running.
- Encoder startup: the streaming application or hardware encoder must start and connect after power returns.
- YouTube stream settings: the stream must allow the encoder to start it.

1. List the equipment that must stay powered
Write down every device the stream depends on: the PC or encoder, modem, router, any required switch, and—if applicable—the camera and its power supply. Backing up only the computer can leave it running with no internet connection.

2. Choose backup power for the actual load
Use a UPS or inverter for the equipment you need to bridge through an outage. Size it using the measured combined load and the duration you want to cover, then test the setup under that load. Runtime varies with equipment and battery condition; no fixed capacity or number of minutes can be promised without those details. A home inverter and battery system is a broader option when the required backup is longer than the chosen UPS can provide, but it still protects only the local equipment connected to it.
3. Configure the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or reuse the scheduled live stream.
- Open its stream settings and enable Auto-start. YouTube says, “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- In the encoder, enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow for streaming software and standalone hardware encoders.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password; do not expose it in screenshots, logs, or public scripts.
- Choose Auto-stop deliberately. If the goal is continuous operation, understand what stopping the stream does and avoid an unintended scheduled end.
First-time live streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube. That is an initial setup consideration, not a normal recovery delay after a power cut.

4. Set the computer and encoder to resume
On a Windows PC using OBS, arrange for OBS to launch when Windows starts and configure an automatic attempt to start streaming. An OBS Project forum response suggests adding --startstreaming to the Windows shortcut and launching OBS through the Startup folder or Task Scheduler. This is community advice, not a guarantee for every current OBS or Windows configuration; see the OBS Project forum discussion.

The PC and OBS can become ready before the modem or router has restored internet access. The forum response cautions that the first connection attempt may fail, and automatic reconnect may not address a failed initial connection after a cold boot. A delayed or connectivity-aware scheduled retry may be more robust, but validate it with your own Windows, OBS, router, and YouTube setup.

5. Test the entire recovery chain
- Schedule a controlled test at a time when you can monitor the system; do not use an unplanned outage as the first test.
- Remove local power from the devices on backup and confirm which remain powered. Then test a full loss and restoration of power, if that is safe for your equipment.
- Restore power and wait for the modem/router and internet connection to return.
- Check that the PC boots, OBS launches, and the encoder connects to the intended YouTube stream.
- Check the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, then confirm the public watch page is live.
- Test an internet interruption separately from a computer reboot. A successful reboot test does not prove that a separate network failure will recover correctly.
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That describes archive handling, not uninterrupted operation or a guarantee that a longer stream will be archived in full.
What a UPS cannot fix: an ISP or network outage
Local backup power can keep your own computer and network equipment on, but it cannot guarantee service if the ISP connection or upstream network is down. If the stream must continue through an access-network failure, investigate a separately routed backup internet connection and verify that your encoder can use it. The available India-specific information does not establish a particular provider or plan, so check availability and terms for your location rather than assuming a backup link will work automatically.

Troubleshooting: find the failed link
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| PC is on, but the stream never returns | OBS did not launch, the automatic start attempt is not configured, or YouTube is not allowing encoder start. | Check Windows startup or Task Scheduler, OBS startup behavior, the selected stream, and YouTube Auto-start settings. |
| OBS launches but cannot connect immediately after reboot | The modem/router or internet connection is not ready when OBS makes its first attempt. | Confirm the network is online, then test a delayed or connectivity-aware retry. Do not assume automatic reconnect covers an initial failed connection. |
| Computer stays on but loses internet during the outage | The modem/router was not backed up, or the ISP service/upstream network is unavailable. | Back up all required local network equipment. If the ISP path itself failed, assess a separately routed backup connection. |
| Stream starts locally but the YouTube watch page is not live | The encoder may be sending to the wrong stream or using incorrect connection details; the stream may also be stopped by its settings. | Verify the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder, inspect Live Control Room preview and stream health, and review Auto-start/Auto-stop choices. |
| Stream ends during a long-running session | A scheduled stop or other stream configuration may be ending it; a power recovery setting cannot prevent every stream interruption. | Review the scheduled stream and Auto-stop behavior, then test recovery from both a power cut and an internet interruption. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the kids’ stream uses prerecorded videos rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps looping from the cloud, so your home computer and connection do not have to stay on. It does not replace a setup for going live from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay powered on at home for the cloud stream to run.
- Uploaded video streams as provided, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
For an Indian channel, UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo plans and pricing, then start the free first day.
