Imane Khelif filed a criminal complaint in Paris in August 2024 over alleged online harassment during the Paris Olympics. Khelif’s lawyer said J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk were mentioned in it—but contemporary reporting described the complaint as directed against X or unknown persons, not as a civil lawsuit naming Rowling and Musk as defendants. Being mentioned did not mean either had been charged or found guilty.
What did Imane Khelif file?
On 9 August 2024, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s lawyer, Nabil Boudi, said she had filed a complaint with the Paris prosecutor’s online-hate center alleging aggravated cyber harassment connected to the online abuse she faced during the Paris Games. Variety reported that the complaint was filed against X or unknown persons, allowing prosecutors to investigate people they considered relevant. Variety’s 14 August 2024 report quotes Boudi saying: “J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others.”

Although Boudi used the word “lawsuit” in that quoted remark, the reporting describes a criminal complaint, not a civil damages suit brought against Rowling and Musk. It does not establish that prosecutors charged either person.
Why were Rowling and Musk mentioned?
The complaint followed online claims and abuse about Khelif’s gender eligibility during the Olympics. Variety reported that Rowling posted about Khelif after her bout with Italian boxer Angela Carini, and that Musk endorsed a post stating, “men don’t belong in women’s sports.” Those posts are part of the reported context; they are not proof of the complaint’s allegations or of wrongdoing.

Boudi told Variety that the complaint asked prosecutors to examine the conduct of the people named as well as anyone else they considered relevant. The report does not establish that prosecutors adopted the allegations as findings.
Were Rowling or Musk charged or found liable?
The available reporting does not say that Rowling or Musk were charged, prosecuted, found guilty, or held civilly liable in connection with Khelif’s 2024 complaint. Being mentioned in a complaint is not the same as being formally charged, and a complaint is not a court finding.

Euronews’ 14 August 2024 account also summarized the complaint and statements attributed to Boudi. The sources reviewed do not establish whether Khelif’s complaint later led to charges, a hearing, dismissal, or another outcome. That later status could not be verified from the public sources reviewed for this article.

Is the later French investigation of X the same case?
No. The Paris prosecutor’s office described a separate investigation into X that opened in January 2025 after other reports and was later expanded to include concerns involving Grok. In April 2026, the prosecutor reported searches at X’s French offices and voluntary interview summonses for Musk and former chief executive Linda Yaccarino. That separate investigation is not identified as a development in Khelif’s August 2024 complaint. The Paris prosecutor’s communication concerns that distinct matter.
