Choice and convenience
Imagination Library: recurring delivery, limited title control
The program sends a selected age-appropriate book each month, so caregivers do not have to find and purchase that monthly title themselves. It is not an on-demand service where a family selects any book it wants for each delivery. Official selection materials list formats including board books and describe English/Spanish bilingual options in select states; this does not mean every family can choose the format or language of each monthly book. - Check local availability first. If your address is not served, the monthly program option is not available there.
- Consider out-of-pocket cost. An enrolled family in a served area pays nothing for the monthly program book; purchased books add household costs.
- Decide how much title control you need. The program provides a monthly selection; buying lets you choose particular books and formats.
- Think about cadence. A book mailed monthly suits families who want recurring delivery; purchases suit needs that arise on a different schedule.
The options can also complement each other: a family may use the monthly selection as a no-charge baseline and buy additional titles for particular interests or preferences. That is a practical way to combine the two routes, not a program requirement.
