The right choice depends on where you plan to use that text: Midjourney Describe produces Midjourney-oriented suggestions, while general vision assistants can describe an image in ordinary language. None guarantees a faithful reconstruction. In a small test reported by Taskade, ImagePrompt.org named more of the selected image’s visible details than CLIP Interrogator—but the comparison used one photo, so it cannot establish a universal winner.
What an image-to-prompt generator does
Use one when you already have a picture and want a text description or model-oriented prompt based on it. Search phrases such as “photo to prompt,” “picture to prompt,” “img2prompt,” “reverse prompting,” and “describe image” generally point to this image-to-text task. An image-to-image tool is different: it takes a picture as a visual reference for generating another image, and may not return a text prompt at all.
A conventional prompt generator starts from an idea you describe in words and expands it into a prompt. Taskade, for example, is an adjacent text-to-prompt service in its comparison, not one of the image-to-prompt tools. The distinction matters: start with a picture for image-to-prompt; start with a written idea for text-to-prompt.
What the one-photo test found—and what it cannot show
Taskade reports testing ten tools on September 24, 2026, with a 1200 × 675 (16:9) CC0 photograph of the Falsterbo lighthouse in Sweden, photographed by Christian Pietzsch. It checked for eight details visible in that image. ImagePrompt.org named 7 of 8 details in each of its three tested modes; CLIP Interrogator named 2 of 8. The article also says CLIP Interrogator described a green door as red and added artist names it characterized as invented. These are results for that image and that test, not a broad accuracy benchmark. Taskade is a vendor in the adjacent prompt-generation category, which is useful context when weighing its comparison.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The test is most useful as a reminder to inspect outputs. Every tested tool missed at least one detail, and an ImagePrompt.org Midjourney-mode result included an aspect-ratio flag that did not match the source photo. The scores do not prove that ImagePrompt.org will outperform CLIP Interrogator on other images, or that either will produce the best final image.
Compare the 10 tools by workflow
The ten tools in Taskade’s comparison are not identical kinds of product. Choose by output format and target generator first, then by whether you prefer a browser tool, chat assistant, or API workflow. Access and privacy terms can vary by plan and change over time; check the service’s current terms before relying on a quota, price, or upload policy.

|---|---|---|
| ImagePrompt.org | Trying several prompt styles from one image | Taskade describes general, structured, graphic-design, JSON, Flux, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion modes. In its test, the Midjourney mode supplied --ar 3:2 for a 16:9 source image. Its Stable Diffusion output was full sentences rather than the comma-separated tags some users may expect. Taskade reported daily free credits, a paid tier, and that ImagePrompt.org says uploads are deleted after processing; verify current terms directly. |
| Midjourney Describe | Getting suggestions intended for Midjourney | Midjourney’s official documentation says Describe analyzes an uploaded image and returns four prompts. It cautions that the suggestions will not precisely copy the source and can vary across repeated runs. The feature requires a paid plan according to Taskade’s comparison; its current subscription price is not established here. |
| Ideogram Describe | A structured breakdown, including JSON | Taskade describes Ideogram Describe 4.0 as returning a structured JSON breakdown and reports that describing a user’s own upload requires Plus. Recheck current access and plan terms. |
| CLIP Interrogator | Dense, keyword-oriented output | Taskade characterizes it as a CLIP-style, Stable Diffusion-oriented option. It reports a daily quota for the hosted Space; running it locally is a separate route. Hosted availability and limits may change. |
| img2prompt on Replicate | A CLIP-style prompt workflow through a hosted model | Taskade describes it as keyword-dense and reports a per-run Replicate price, but does not establish a durable price here. Check the current model page for the applicable charge and terms. |
| ChatGPT | Plain-language image descriptions and follow-up instructions | OpenAI documents image inputs on Free and paid plans, subject to plan limits, and a 20 MB per-image limit. This is general image understanding, not evidence of a dedicated reverse-prompt feature that produces the same output every time. See the ChatGPT Image Inputs FAQ. |
| Claude | Plain-language visual analysis in a chat workflow | Anthropic documents image understanding and analysis. That capability is not the same as a dedicated reverse-prompt tool. See Anthropic’s vision documentation. |
| Gemini | Image descriptions, classification, or visual question answering | Google’s Gemini API documentation covers those image-understanding tasks and image input through a URL, inline data, or the Files API. This is API capability, not a claim that every consumer Gemini interface has the same options. See Gemini API image understanding. |
| Google AI Studio | Trying Gemini image understanding in a developer-oriented interface | It is included in Taskade’s comparison as a plain-language description option. The Gemini API documentation establishes image-understanding capabilities, but specific access and interface details can vary. |
| Leonardo | Plain-language descriptions within an image-generation service | Taskade describes its default output as plain language and says an assistant can be asked for a target format. It reports free-tier generations are public; confirm current visibility and privacy settings for the account and plan you use. |
Taskade’s dated vendor-page checks on September 23–24, 2026, also reported free vision access among general assistants, daily free credits for ImagePrompt.org, Plus access for Ideogram uploads, and a per-run Replicate charge. Treat those as a dated snapshot, not guaranteed current availability or pricing. The official Midjourney documentation confirms the Describe feature’s purpose and four-prompt behavior, but does not establish a current subscription price.
How to get a more useful prompt
- Pick the image generator first. If the result is for Midjourney, try its native Describe feature; if you need a particular structure or format, select a tool or assistant that can provide it.
- Upload a clear image. Use an image you have the right to upload, and check the tool’s file limits and data terms before submitting it.
- Request the output you need. A general-language description may be easier to edit; a model-specific or structured format may be more convenient, but still needs checking.
- Review every detail and flag. Check colors, objects, setting, lighting, composition, names, aspect ratio, and any model-specific syntax. Delete invented details and correct mistakes rather than assuming the output is a transcription.
- Add what matters to your goal. A description can omit a detail that is important to you. Add it explicitly, and remove elements that do not belong.
- Generate, compare, and revise. Treat the prompt as a first draft. Compare the generated result with the reference, then adjust the words or settings that account for the differences.
- Save the working version. Keep the final prompt with the reference image and the generator settings used, so you can reproduce or revise the attempt later.
Why these tools do not recreate an image exactly
A caption or prompt is an interpretation of visual content, not a complete record of every pixel or generation setting behind an image. A tool may omit a small object, confuse a color, add an unsupported name, or express a scene in language that a target model interprets differently. Even repeated descriptions can vary. Midjourney’s documentation puts the limitation plainly: “Describe is an image-to-text tool that can help guide your creativity, but the suggested prompts won’t precisely copy your image.”

That makes these tools useful for discovering language, identifying broad composition or style cues, and creating a starting point—not for recovering an original prompt or guaranteeing a pixel-for-pixel match. A final render is the practical check on whether the wording works for your intended generator.

Upload policies are service- and plan-specific. Taskade reports that ImagePrompt.org says uploads are deleted after processing, that Anthropic says Claude does not train on uploaded images, and that free-tier generations on Ideogram and Leonardo are public. OpenAI’s image FAQ points to its general content-use explanation and says Enterprise content is not used to train its models. These statements do not establish identical handling across every tier, account type, or service.
