Ikigai’s minimalist Android home screen and built-in friction tools may help make habitual app-opening less automatic—but “cured my phone addiction” is a personal framing, not a result established for everyone. Its Google Play listing describes text-based layouts, launch delays, app limits, blocking and short-video controls. Whether those features help depends on how you use your phone, and on whether the launcher’s extra steps feel useful rather than frustrating.
What Ikigai changes about your home screen
IKIGAI: Minimal Launcher, by etarin, replaces the familiar grid of colorful app icons with text-based layouts. Google Play lists three options: VOID, BREATH and STUDIO. The idea is to make the home screen less visually stimulating and put app access behind a more deliberate interface.

A launcher changes how you see and open apps; it does not remove the apps themselves or change the underlying reasons you reach for them. Ikigai’s layout can create a different first step between unlocking your phone and opening an app, but the store listing does not establish that this change reduces screen time.
Which distraction controls the listing describes
Google Play advertises a set of controls intended to add friction or set boundaries around phone use. These are product features described by the developer, not independently measured outcomes.

These mechanisms address different habits. A delay can interrupt an automatic tap; a limit can set a boundary; hiding an app can make it less immediately available. None guarantees that a person will keep the limit, avoid the app elsewhere, or change a persistent problem with phone use.
What may help—and what may get in the way
The potential benefit is intentional friction: instead of reaching a familiar icon instantly, you encounter a text-based screen or a pause before a selected app opens. That may suit someone who wants a less stimulating home screen and is willing to add a little effort to routine app access.

That friction is also the trade-off. The accessible Yahoo Tech search-result excerpt about the reviewer’s experience is favorable toward Ikigai’s minimalist approach, but flags that it is less responsive than Pixel Launcher and that draw-to-search takes time to learn. The Yahoo article itself was not accessible beyond that excerpt, so it does not support a fuller account of the review or a general verdict on performance.

Privacy and accessibility disclosures
Google Play says Ikigai’s optional AccessibilityService supports Digital Guard and navigation gestures, and the listing says processing happens locally on the phone. Its Data safety section displays “No data collected” and “No data shared with third parties.” These are developer-provided disclosures displayed by Google Play, not an independent technical audit; the store page notes that safety information is provided by the developer and may vary.
If you enable the optional service, review the permission prompt and decide whether the described functions justify granting it. The listing’s disclosure should inform that decision, but it is not proof of how every device configuration or future app version behaves.

Google Play lists Ikigai as updated on September 26, 2026. The release notes mention an upgrade to target Android 16 (API 36), smoother crossfade transitions, and search performance and stability improvements. These are the changes noted in the listing; they do not, on their own, establish a comparative performance result.

What the “cure” claim can—and cannot—mean
The title’s first-person wording describes an individual experience, not a clinical conclusion. The available material does not establish a clinical effect, a quantified reduction in screen time, or an independently measured cure. Google Play’s promotional claims—including a claim about reducing daily phone use—do not come with a study or measurement method in the listing, so they should not be treated as verified results.

Ikigai is best understood as a launcher with advertised tools for making selected phone habits less convenient. It may be worth trying if a quieter home screen and deliberate pauses match what you want. It cannot be presented as a proven treatment or a guaranteed fix for compulsive phone use.
