The pieces include flexible seating, mobile stands and tables, storage, and a mirrored controller display box. The “stealth” appeal is its understated, home-furniture approach—not a claim that the collection hides or disguises itself.
What’s in the IKEA and Xbox YXSTABY collection?
Xbox describes YXSTABY as a nine-piece range co-developed by the IKEA and Xbox design teams. It launched in IKEA stores on October 1, 2026; online availability was expected later that year, with availability varying by market. Xbox’s launch announcement lists these product types:

- Gaming lounge chair
- Gaming thumbstick stool
- Gaming TV stand on castors
- Gaming side table on castors
- Gaming monitor stand
- Gaming laptop support with storage
- Gaming controller display box
- Gaming D-pad cushion
- Gaming D-pad controller platter
The collection borrows recognizable controller forms, but most pieces have an everyday furniture or storage role. Xbox Head of Design, Xbox Devices Carl Ledbetter said the aim was to make elements such as the D-pad and thumbstick functional furniture that could feel at home in everyday living spaces. That is the design intent, not proof that every room or owner will find the pieces visually unobtrusive.

How the pieces fit different gaming setups
For lounging and moving around
The lounge chair is the collection’s dedicated seat, while the thumbstick stool offers a more active, movable perch. Xbox says the stool’s shape was developed using original 3D design files for the Xbox Wireless Controller and that its textured grip serves a stabilizing purpose. Tom’s Guide Managing Editor Jason England, writing after trying the pieces at Gamescom, describes the stool’s curved base as tilting in different directions. He also reports that the chair’s cantilevered frame flexes, with a pocket under the seat and a removable, machine-washable cover. These are his hands-on observations, not the results of a long-term comfort or durability test. Read England’s Gamescom hands-on account.

For screens, peripherals, and flexible layouts
The monitor stand and laptop support serve fixed desk or tabletop arrangements, while the TV stand and side table sit on castors and can be repositioned. That distinction matters more than the Xbox styling if you regularly change a room between gaming and other uses: choose the mobile pieces for a layout that shifts, and the monitor stand or laptop support for a more settled setup. The laptop support also includes storage, according to Xbox’s product list.
For display and decorative accents
The mirrored controller display box is designed to show a controller from every side and can also hold figurines or other collectibles. The D-pad-inspired cushion is a soft accent; the stainless-steel D-pad platter is a decorative piece. These items make the controller reference explicit, so they are less visually subtle than the furniture with practical storage or screen-support functions.

Is the IKEA Xbox furniture comfortable?
There is a positive first impression from England’s Gamescom visit, particularly his descriptions of the tilting stool and flexing lounge chair. But one person trying furniture briefly cannot establish that it will suit every body, preferred sitting posture, or gaming session. The official Xbox podcast transcript describes the designers’ intention to make a chair suitable for a home or living room while addressing gaming comfort and ergonomics; those goals are not independent ergonomic validation. If fit or long-session support is decisive, treat the reported flex and movement as features to try in person rather than guarantees of comfort.

Where does YXSTABY sit among IKEA’s gaming furniture?
YXSTABY is distinct from BRÄNNBOLL, IKEA’s separate gaming collection announced in 2024. IKEA described BRÄNNBOLL as a 20-item range intended to bring gaming into the home; YXSTABY is the nine-piece collaboration with Xbox launched in 2026. IKEA’s BRÄNNBOLL announcement provides the earlier collection’s details.
For a room where gaming gear should share space with everyday furniture, YXSTABY’s strongest case is its mix of practical functions and restrained furniture forms. It is not uniformly subtle: the stool, D-pad accents, and controller display make their gaming inspiration clear. The most adaptable choices are the mobile table and TV stand; the most overtly collectible-focused is the mirrored box.
