Some pieces are relatively inexpensive—such as the UK £12 controller-shaped platter—but the claim that they are cheaper than many modern games is not established without comparing specific games, editions, regions and current prices.
What is the IKEA and Xbox YXSTABY collection?
YXSTABY is a nine-piece collaboration designed to bring gaming-inspired furniture into shared living spaces. The range includes seating, a mobile TV stand and side table, a controller platter, display boxes, a laptop support and a monitor stand. IKEA and Xbox describe it as a way to accommodate gaming in homes that may not have a dedicated gaming room. IKEA’s announcement and Xbox’s launch post each describe nine pieces.

The design references Xbox controller elements, including the D-pad and thumbstick. IKEA product developer Philip Dilé said the aim was to make furniture people would want in their homes rather than furniture they accepted as a gaming necessity. Xbox design head Carl Ledbetter described translating controller elements into functional pieces intended to fit everyday living spaces. Those are the companies’ stated design goals; whether an item suits a particular room depends on its size, use and price.

Check your local IKEA listing before buying: UK, Canadian and US amounts are separate market prices and should not be treated as a single interchangeable price list. IKEA announced availability beginning October 1, 2026, while noting that availability varies by market. The IKEA launch announcement gives that timing.
Are any YXSTABY pieces actually cheaper than a modern game?
The £12 UK platter and C$19.99 Canadian platter are low-cost items, but the broad claim that the collection is “cheaper than many modern games” cannot be confirmed from these furniture prices alone. IKEA and Xbox have not provided a benchmark for game prices. A meaningful comparison would need to name the game, edition, platform, retailer, country and date; prices vary across those factors. The price comparison appears in Neowin’s headline framing, rather than being demonstrated by the official product information.

There is also a difference between comparing one accessory with one game and saying that the furniture collection as a whole costs less. The listed UK furniture examples range from £12 to £115, while the Canadian examples range from C$19.99 to C$199. Those figures describe the listed pieces in their respective markets, not a collection bundle price.
What should you know about the furniture’s use?
TV stand and side table
IKEA describes the YXSTABY TV stand as its first of this type, with wheels for moving it to where people play and rear storage for gaming gear. The stated concept is to roll it away when it is no longer needed. The side table is also on castors in the UK listing, which may help when rearranging a room. These features are most relevant if you need to move a screen or accessories between shared-use spaces. IKEA’s collection announcement explains the mobile setup and storage idea.

Thumbstick stool
The US black thumbstick stool is listed at $49.99 and measures 14¾ inches in diameter by 17⅜ inches high, with a maximum load of 243 pounds. IKEA says its shape takes inspiration from a controller thumbstick and advises users to keep their feet on the floor when using the standing support. These specifications apply to that US product listing; check the local listing for the version sold in your market. IKEA’s US stool listing provides the dimensions and load limit.
Controller platter and accessories
The D-pad platter is a small accessory styled after a controller’s directional pad. The controller shown with it is a companion item, not evidence that a controller comes with the platter or any other furniture. IKEA’s product pages do not state that a controller is included. Check each product listing for the exact contents before ordering.

How to decide whether YXSTABY is worth considering
- Start with the need: choose seating, a surface, device support or screen storage based on what your setup lacks, rather than treating the collection as a required bundle.
- Check fit: compare the product dimensions with the available room and the equipment you intend to use; the published stool measurements are for the US black version only.
- Use the right local price: confirm the country-specific IKEA page and current availability, since listed prices and stock can vary by market.
- Compare games carefully: if the price claim matters to your decision, compare a named game edition on the same platform, in the same region and at the same date as the furniture listing.
