IKEA and Xbox’s YXSTABY collaboration is a nine-piece home-gaming collection, not just a novelty thumbstick stool. It includes a mirrored, wall-mountable controller display box, lounge seating, desk and screen accessories, rolling furniture, and D-pad-inspired decor. The clever part is that most pieces pair Xbox design cues with practical uses such as storage, cable management, or mobility.
What’s in the IKEA x Xbox YXSTABY range?
Xbox describes YXSTABY as a nine-piece collection co-developed by IKEA and Xbox, with a designer from each team involved in every piece. Its forms draw on Xbox controller details, but the range is organized around ordinary home activities as well as gaming. Xbox Wire’s launch overview and IKEA UK’s collection page list the products.

| Use | Pieces | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Play and lounge | Thumbstick stool, lounge chair, D-pad cushion | A tilting seat, repositionable lounge seating with a controller pocket, and a cushion shaped around the D-pad motif. |
| Show and store | Mirrored controller display box, rolling side table | A display for a controller or small collectible, plus a side table with storage and charging utility. |
| Set up a desk or screen | Monitor stand, laptop support with storage, rolling TV stand | Desk and screen accessories with storage, hooks, mobility, or cable-management features. |
| Add a decorative touch | D-pad platter | A stainless-steel platter that brings the controller’s directional-pad design into the room. |
IKEA’s design story describes details including hooks on the monitor stand and cord-hiding and charging utility in the side table. The collection’s appeal is not just visual: it tries to make gaming equipment fit into a lived-in room rather than treating it as a separate, highly specialized setup.
Why the thumbstick stool is the standout
The stool is based on the form of an Xbox analog stick. IKEA says it was developed with Xbox device designers using the controller’s original 3D design files. The controller grip texture was adapted for the stool, and the seat tilts with the person sitting on it.

David Wahl, Designer at IKEA of Sweden, explained the design challenge: “The challenge was making it work as a stool, with the right seating curve and stability, while still feeling like a thumbstick. It even moves the way a thumbstick does, so it tilts with you while you play.” That makes the piece more than a controller-shaped prop: its movement is part of the concept, although the available product information does not establish an independent comfort or stability assessment.
The mirrored display box is built to show off a controller
The black display box has a mirrored interior and a transparent removable holder. IKEA says it can be placed horizontally or vertically, mounted on a wall, or used freestanding. Remove the holder and it can display small gaming collectible figures instead. The US listing gives dimensions of 8 5/8 × 4 3/4 × 6 1/4 inches. IKEA US’s product page lists those details.

For a TV or lounge area
The TV stand on castors is designed to move and includes shelves for gaming essentials and cable management. The lounge chair can be repositioned and has a pocket for a controller, while the rolling side table can hide cords and charge small devices such as controllers, according to IKEA’s design description. The D-pad cushion adds a softer, less equipment-focused way to bring the collection’s visual language into a room.
For a small decorative detail
The stainless-steel D-pad platter is the least furniture-like piece, but it helps make the collection feel coherent. It translates a familiar controller element into an everyday object rather than another place to store hardware.

Is the IKEA x Xbox collaboration more than a novelty?
For anyone who wants gaming gear to feel at home in a shared living space, YXSTABY has a stronger case than a collection of branded ornaments: the stool moves, the display box has several placement options, and other pieces build in storage, pockets, hooks, castors, or cable management. The controller references are most obvious on the stool, cushion, platter, and display box, while the rest of the range is more about making a setup easier to live with.
The collection’s design ambition is summed up by Carl Ledbetter, Head of Design at Xbox Devices: “By translating elements like the D-pad and thumbstick into functional furniture, we created pieces that celebrate Xbox design while feeling completely at home in everyday living spaces.” Whether that design language suits a particular room is personal; the practical features give the range a purpose beyond its Xbox styling.
