The IKEA VATNESTRÖM is a 26 cm pocket-sprung mattress with latex foam and five comfort zones, according to IKEA. It is offered in different firmness options in the markets covered here, but the available product information does not establish how it feels for different sleepers or how it performs over years of everyday use. This review explains what the listed construction and regional product terms do—and do not—tell you.
What is the IKEA VATNESTRÖM mattress?
VATNESTRÖM is a pocket-sprung mattress that IKEA describes as incorporating latex foam and five comfort zones. IKEA says the zones provide softer support around the hips and shoulders, that the springs respond independently, and that the mattress has reinforced edges. These are the manufacturer’s feature descriptions, not independently measured performance findings. IKEA Germany’s product listing describes the 90 × 200 cm firm/natural version as 26 cm thick.

The listing’s “natural” wording should not be taken to mean the whole mattress is made of natural materials. Its construction combines natural and manufactured components.

Construction and materials
IKEA’s product information lists cotton ticking; PLA-fibre wadding; latex foam; linen/viscose side fabric; cotton and wool inner filling; steel pocket springs; and a coir-and-natural-latex protection pad. The list describes a mixed-material mattress, not a mattress composed entirely of latex, wool, or any other single material. IKEA Norway’s listing also identifies the 80 × 200 cm firm/natural variant.

Firm or medium-firm: which version should you consider?
The cited pages show that VATNESTRÖM is not one universal firmness specification. IKEA Germany lists a firm/natural 90 × 200 cm example, while IKEA Switzerland lists a medium-firm 90 × 200 cm example. Availability can depend on country, size and listing; those examples do not prove that both firmnesses are offered in every market.
The available product information cannot establish which firmness will suit you based on sleep position, body weight, pressure relief or personal comfort. Treat the firmness label as a starting point, then check the exact local variant and IKEA’s current exchange terms before buying. If you compare alternatives, use the same size and market, and check height, listed materials, price, delivery, care and return conditions rather than relying on a label alone.

Care and ownership
IKEA says not to wash, bleach, tumble-dry, iron or dry-clean the mattress. What this review can—and cannot—conclude
The specifications make VATNESTRÖM identifiable as a relatively thick pocket-sprung mattress with a mixed-material build and a latex foam layer, in the cited variants. But the available evidence does not independently demonstrate comfort by sleep position, motion isolation, pressure relief, suitability by body weight, or long-term durability in ordinary use. IKEA’s feature descriptions and customer-rating snapshots cannot settle those questions for every sleeper.

Verdict: VATNESTRÖM may merit consideration if its local size, firmness, materials and purchase terms fit your needs. The strongest practical reasons to compare it carefully are the market-specific variants and exchange conditions; the strongest reason not to assume a fit is that independent performance evidence is not established here.
