IKEA RUMSMALVA is a shredded memory-foam ergonomic pillow that IKEA positions for back and side sleepers. The product description explains how its loose fill is intended to adapt around the head and neck, but that is a manufacturer claim—not an independent comfort test or proof of health benefits. The available specifications vary by market and size, so check the listing and care label for the exact pillow sold where you live.
What is the IKEA RUMSMALVA pillow?
RUMSMALVA is an ergonomic pillow filled with shredded memory foam. IKEA’s Morocco and Turkey listings describe it for back and side sleepers. IKEA says the pieces can move to cradle a back sleeper’s head or fill the space between a side sleeper’s neck and shoulder. That explains the intended design; it does not establish how supportive or comfortable the pillow will feel to a particular person.

The Turkish listing for the 50 × 60 cm version specifies polyurethane foam and a polypropylene pillow casing. The exact material composition and labeling can vary by market, so check the product details for the item you are considering.

How to wash and care for RUMSMALVA
The key distinction is that the removable cover can be washed, but the foam pillow itself cannot. IKEA’s 2021 advice leaflet says: “The removable cover can be washed at 60ºC. The foam filling is not washable; please follow the care instructions on the label.” The current product listings also say not to bleach, tumble-dry, iron or dry-clean the pillow itself. Cover drying and ironing directions are given on the product pages; follow the care label supplied with your exact item.

What this review can—and cannot—say about comfort
The documented evidence establishes the pillow’s intended sleep positions, certain market-specific specifications and care guidance. It does not establish a comfort rating, firmness, adjustable loft, durability, sleep-quality improvement or relief from neck pain. No independent hands-on or laboratory test, or representative analysis of consumer reviews, is available here. IKEA’s description of how the fill is meant to adapt should not be treated as proof that it will suit every back or side sleeper.

Availability depends on the IKEA market
The cited IKEA Morocco pages currently display “Last chance to buy.” That status applies to those specific listings and can change; it does not establish that RUMSMALVA is discontinued everywhere. The Turkey page is a separate market listing. Check your local IKEA page for current stock, price, product status and return terms. If you are searching more broadly for alternatives, “shredded memory foam ergonomic pillow” describes the category; it does not mean the IKEA pillow itself is listed by another retailer.
