Jamia Senior Secondary School, part of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has partnered with IIT Madras’s School Connect programme to offer students in Classes 9–12 eight-week online certificate courses. The courses are intended to help students explore subjects and possible study directions—not to provide a degree, an admissions route to IIT Madras or a guaranteed career outcome.
What the IIT Madras–Jamia partnership offers
The collaboration gives Jamia Senior Secondary School students access to School Connect’s online academic-exploration courses. The Indian Express reported the partnership on 6 October 2026; it did not state when the agreement was signed or how long it will remain in effect. The report also did not give Jamia-specific enrollment figures or name coordinators.

IIT Madras says its wider School Connect learning experience combines pre-recorded lectures, live sessions, assignments and computer-based assessments. The courses run for eight weeks. IIT Madras’s 7 September 2026 announcement describes the October 2026 cohort as covering Classes IX–XII, with courses in English and Hindi; it does not establish which languages or course options Jamia students will receive.

The Indian Express report describes options across mathematics and science, engineering, computing, humanities and management. Examples it names include:
#1 Best Overall
- Data science and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, game technology, and mathematics and computing
- Electronic systems, aerospace, chemical engineering, biological systems, architecture and design, and product design
- Economics and finance, law, digital humanities, ecology and forensic sciences
These are examples in the report, not a confirmed Jamia-specific course roster. Students should check the course choices communicated by their school rather than assume every named subject is available to them.
How students can use the courses to explore next steps
For Classes 9 and 10
JMI’s explanation, as reported by The Indian Express, frames the courses as a way for younger students to explore interests before selecting a stream in Class 11. A course can offer exposure to a subject, but it does not determine which stream a student should choose.
Rank #2
For Classes 11 and 12
Students approaching undergraduate study can use the courses to encounter fields they may be considering and reflect on possible study or career directions. IIT Madras’s programme-level description is consistent with that exploratory purpose: CODE Chair Prof. Andrew Thangaraj said School Connect was built to let students explore and understand fields before making important academic choices. This is a statement about the wider programme, not a description of Jamia’s specific implementation.

When the school shares its available options, students can compare them by subject interest, relevance to their next academic decision, the course format and the time they can commit to assignments and assessments. Those are practical selection considerations, not published rankings of the courses.
What the certificate requires
Students who complete the prescribed requirements receive an e-certificate from IIT Madras’s Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE). The report says those requirements include assignments and examinations; IIT Madras’s programme announcement describes computer-based assessments among the course components. Enrollment alone should not be treated as completion or as a guarantee of a certificate.
What is known about the fee and school arrangements?
IIT Madras’s general School Connect partnership page describes the school partnership as non-commercial and says a student pays ₹500 for a certification course. Its general guidance describes appointing a school single point of contact, submitting an expression of interest, collecting and remitting student fees in bulk, and monitoring progress through a dashboard. These are programme-wide instructions, not confirmation of Jamia’s fee collection or operating arrangements. The Indian Express report does not specify whether Jamia follows that procedure.
Rank #4
How large is School Connect?
IIT Madras’s 7 September 2026 announcement says the overall programme had partnered with more than 4,900 schools, including more than 60 outside India, and benefited over 1.75 lakh students. These are programme-wide figures; they are not Jamia participation or enrollment numbers.
