The iClever Q950 is an over-ear children’s headphone that works over Bluetooth 6.0 or through a detachable 3.5 mm cable, and the manufacturer lists active noise cancelling (ANC), a transparency mode and an 80 dBA volume limit. Those features suit travel and school use well on paper. The independent review we could cite found the sound and comfort favorable and the ANC useful mainly against steady low-frequency noise. A volume limiter, however, covers only part of what makes listening safe, and the Q950’s specifications come from iClever rather than from independent testing.
What the Q950 is and who it suits
The Q950 is built for children who listen on planes, in cars, on buses or at a desk, and who need headphones that can switch between wireless and wired use. It is a hybrid device: it pairs over Bluetooth like any wireless headset, charges over USB-C, and can also be used with its cable when the battery is flat or when a school or airline system needs a plug. The manufacturer also describes it as audiologist-recommended and says it carries a TÜV Rheinland Hearing Care Certification. Those are the company’s own claims; we did not find certification documents or a test protocol to check them against.

Noise cancelling, transparency and wired use
ANC is the Q950’s main travel feature. iClever states that it reduces ambient noise, and its feature page gives a figure of up to 94.75% reduction in cabin noise energy. That is a manufacturer’s laboratory-style claim, and it describes energy, not what a child hears. Engines and road noise are steady and low-frequency, which is the kind of sound ANC handles best; voices and sudden sounds are harder to remove. Read the figure as a sign that the feature targets engine drone, not as a promise of silence.
Transparency mode lets outside sounds come through, which matters for crossing a road, hearing an announcement or talking to a teacher without removing the headphones. Ear detection pauses playback when the headphones come off and resumes when they are worn again. Audio sharing connects two headphones to one device, which is useful for two siblings watching the same film.

Using the cable
iClever states that ANC remains available in wired AUX mode, so a child who needs the cable can still use noise cancelling. The listing does not say how wired ANC affects the battery, and it does not give a separate battery figure for that mode. Carry the cable as a backup for when the battery is empty.

|---|---|
| Wireless, ANC off | Up to 60 hours |
| Wireless, ANC on | Up to 35 hours |
| Quick charge | Five minutes for three hours of use |
| Wired ANC mode | Not stated |
These are the company’s figures, and they assume a specific test method that the listing does not describe. A child who listens at high volume, or who uses ANC all day, will likely get less. We did not measure battery life ourselves, so treat these numbers as the upper end of what to expect.

What independent reviewers observed
Tom’s Guide published a review of the Q950 under the headline “These iClever Q950s might be the best kid headphones I’ve ever tried.” The reviewer described the headphones as comfortable, rated the sound favorably for a children’s model, reported a quick Bluetooth connection, and found that the ANC reduced low-frequency noise while letting more voices and higher-frequency sound through. Those are one reviewer’s impressions of one unit, not a controlled comparison, and the review does not replace a fit check on your own child.
The useful way to read the review is to set each claim against what your child will do with the headphones. A reviewer testing on a commute will notice engine noise being reduced. A child in a noisy classroom will need the voice pass-through to work, and the review’s description of ANC letting voices through suggests it does not block them completely.

The 80 dBA limit and WHO guidance
An 80 dBA volume limit is a ceiling on how loud the headphones can play. It is not a dose meter, and it does not tell you how long a child has been listening. The World Health Organization treats level and duration together. Its safe-listening advice includes keeping volume below 60% of the maximum and using carefully fitted, noise-cancelling headphones where possible, since better isolation lets a child hear content at lower volume.
The WHO-ITU standard for personal audio devices, published in 2019, sets a reference allowance for children of 75 dB for 40 hours per week. It also describes device features that go beyond a fixed limit, such as sound-exposure tracking and parental volume control. The table compares those features with what the Q950 listing states.

| Feature in the WHO-ITU standard | Q950 listing |
|---|---|
| Maximum volume limit for children | 80 dBA, stated by iClever. This is higher than the 75 dB reference in the standard. |
| Sound-exposure tracking | Not stated on the listing |
| Parental volume control | Not stated on the listing |
Because the reference is 75 dB, an 80 dBA ceiling allows louder listening than the standard’s children’s reference, which means a child can reach the weekly allowance in less time. Whether the Q950 is appropriate depends on how it is used, so the limit is best treated as one protection among several rather than a guarantee.
The scale of the issue
In a 12 February 2019 release, WHO estimated that 1.1 billion young people were at risk of hearing loss from prolonged and excessive exposure to loud sounds, and expressed this as nearly half of people aged 12 to 35. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in the same release: “Given that we have the technological know-how to prevent hearing loss, it should not be the case that so many young people continue to damage their hearing while listening to music. They must understand that once they lose their hearing, it won’t come back.”
Is the Q950 a good fit?
The Q950 fits a child who needs travel noise cancelling, a wired fallback, and wireless convenience in one headset. It is a sensible choice when a parent wants a volume ceiling as a starting safeguard. It is less suited to a family that wants exposure tracking or parental volume control built into the device, since neither is stated on the listing. Sound and comfort were praised by the one independent review cited here, but no independent battery test, certification check or child fit study was carried out for this article.
