The Philips OneChef made it easier to set up a meal and step away while it cooked, but it did not replace my gas stove. In a one-week, one-meal-a-day test, the trade-off became clear: OneChef offered more cooking methods in one appliance and less active supervision for some dishes; the stove was better for fast heat changes, tempering and cooking several dishes at once.
What the week-long test involved
In a HT Tech review published October 6, 2026, the reviewer used the Philips OneChef for one meal a day over a week. The meals included chicken steak, fish, paneer tikka, idli, steamed rice, dal, aloo and other sabzi, and bread rolls. This was a hands-on review, not a controlled comparison of cooking times or energy use.

The reviewer’s most notable surprise was not that OneChef could make a wide range of food; it was how its cooking style changed the work around a meal. Once a dish was set up, some tasks needed less active attention than they did on the stove. But the cook had to learn to choose a mode and settings rather than adjust a flame by instinct.
Where OneChef worked better than the stove
Set it up, then monitor less actively
For dishes that suited a preset or configured cooking cycle, the reviewer found OneChef useful when they wanted to step away after setup. That can make a difference for a meal with a longer cooking stage, though it does not mean every recipe is hands-off: food still needs the right settings, and the review does not establish a measured time saving.

Several cooking methods in one appliance
The Philips OneChef NX5300/00 is a 6 L device that Philips Domestic Appliances India describes as having 33 functions. Its listed methods include air frying, stir frying, steaming, boiling, curry cooking, baking and roasting. That range gives it options a gas burner alone does not provide, and the reviewer valued being able to use different methods without switching among separate appliances for those tasks.
Philips says the OneChef supports dishes such as biryani, curries, dal, rice, idli, dhokla, momos, stir-fries and steamed dishes. It describes the dish-based programs as automatic while allowing users to adjust settings. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance findings. See the official OneChef information for the listed dishes, program details and support guidance.

Where the gas stove still won
Quick sautéing and tempering
A stove flame responds immediately when you turn it up or down. In the review, that made spontaneous cooking and quick sautéing or tempering more convenient than using OneChef’s selected modes and settings. If your usual cooking depends on changing heat by feel, expect an adjustment rather than a direct replacement.
Cooking several dishes at once
The reviewer preferred the gas stove when preparing multiple dishes simultaneously. A single cooking vessel is a different workflow from using several burners in parallel, so OneChef is a weaker fit if your normal meal requires coordinating several pots and pans at the same time.

What “33-in-1” does—and doesn’t—tell you
The function count is a feature list, not evidence that every household will use all 33 functions. The reviewer did not try all of them and advises buyers to focus on the methods they expect to use regularly. Before choosing OneChef, consider whether air frying, steaming, baking or its other listed modes would genuinely replace tasks you already do, rather than buying on the headline number alone.

Who should consider switching—and who should keep the stove central?
- OneChef may suit you if you want one appliance for several cooking methods and value being able to leave a configured cooking task with less active supervision.
- A gas stove may suit you better if you often temper spices, make quick heat adjustments or cook multiple dishes on separate burners.
- Keep both in the workflow if OneChef’s extra methods appeal to you but you still rely on direct flame for everyday cooking. The week-long review supports treating it as a useful addition for particular tasks, not proof that it can replace every stove routine.
Did the Philips OneChef replace the gas stove?
No—not for the reviewer. The HT Tech reviewer’s conclusion was: “So no, the Philips OneChef didn’t replace my gas stove.” The week showed a practical division of labour: OneChef was useful for varied cooking that could be set up and monitored less actively, while the stove remained more convenient for fast, responsive and parallel cooking.
