The available project excerpt refers to an automatic button pusher. It does not identify a model, describe an installation, or verify whether the accessory itself was modified internally. So “took apart” is the title’s claim, not enough evidence to infer a teardown method, switch, actuator, circuit, firmware change, or parts list. No demonstrated reliability or test results are established.

How sleep tracking works in stock operation
Start and end a session
Nintendo describes sleep tracking as based on lack of movement, not as a clinical measurement method. In the Pokémon GO workflow, the accessory must be paired with Pokémon GO but not actively connected for gameplay when you start a session for rewards. Hold the main button until the indicator flashes blue and a lullaby plays. When you wake, hold it again until the indicator flashes multicolored lights. A red flash means the log was not recorded successfully or the session lasted less than 90 minutes. Place the accessory for movement detection
Pokémon Support says the device can be placed on the mattress or secured to a pillow with its included strap and clip. Bedding and placement affect whether movement is detected; moving it closer to your body may help. A session shorter than 90 minutes is not saved to the device. Where the sleep data goes
The two apps use the data differently. Pokémon Sleep uploads bedtime, wake-up time, and time spent in each sleep stage. For Pokémon GO, Niantic says shared data is used to calculate rewards and display in-app activity. That data is removed from Niantic’s servers after one week; otherwise, sleep data is stored on the accessory rather than the phone. Pokémon Support says up to eight sessions can be reported to Pokémon Sleep at once, but data 14 days old or older cannot be reported. Questions to weigh before automating the button
An automatic press may reduce a small daily chore, but the available account does not establish whether this particular project preserves every cue and step in the official workflow. When comparing the stock process, an external timed button press, or an internal modification, consider:
- Does it open the accessory? An external button pusher and an internal modification have different setup and repair implications; the project excerpt does not say which arrangement was used.
- Can it be reversed? Consider whether automation can be removed without leaving the device altered.
- Will timing be dependable? The start and end presses define the session, and a session shorter than 90 minutes is not saved.
- Does the normal workflow still complete? Check that the start and wake-up indicators occur and that you can reconnect to transfer the data or claim Pokémon GO rewards.
These are evaluation questions, not tested comparisons: no source here ranks the approaches or reports how reliably the project performed.

Safety and device cautions
Nintendo’s U.S. safety guidance says, “Do not disassemble or try to repair the Pokémon GO Plus +.” It also says not to use the accessory while charging, including for sleep tracking, and to remove the charging cable when sleeping. Nintendo warns that the magnet and wireless transmitter may interfere with pacemakers or defibrillators, and advises people with either device not to use the accessory.
