In Tony Polanco’s September 21, 2026, hands-on look at the first five Googlebooks, the ASUS Googlebook 14 stood out for its thin, lightweight design and travel-friendly feel. That is an event impression, not a lab-tested verdict: Polanco said the laptops needed more hands-on time and testing.
Here is how the five launch models compare, what Google says makes a Googlebook different, and what the reported launch prices do—and do not—tell you about buying one.

Which Googlebook stood out?
Polanco’s pick was the ASUS Googlebook 14. At the launch event, he highlighted its 2.2-pound weight, 0.43-inch thickness, and reduced screen glare. Those qualities make it the clearest choice in this lineup for someone who prioritizes carrying a laptop around.

The distinction is about portability and first impressions, not proven overall superiority. The report does not provide comparable performance, battery, or display lab results for all five models. ASUS’s stated battery life and brightness figures are claims, not measurements from Polanco’s testing.

How do the five launch models compare?
Google’s first wave includes laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The configurations and U.S. starting prices below are those reported by Tom’s Guide at publication on September 21, 2026; they are not a current retailer price check.
| Model | Reported configuration and distinguishing feature | Reported U.S. starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Acer Googlebook 14 | 14-inch OLED touchscreen, aluminum chassis; the lineup’s sole 2-in-1 convertible. | $899 |
| ASUS Googlebook 14 | Intel Core Ultra 5 Panther Lake, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD (up to 512 GB), 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen, 70 Wh battery; 2.2 pounds and 0.43 inches thick. | $1,299 |
| Dell XPS Googlebook | 13.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen, Snapdragon X Elite, 16 GB RAM (up to 32 GB), 512 GB SSD. | $999 |
| HP Googlebook 14 | 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, Snapdragon X Elite, 16–32 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD; lattice-less keyboard. | $1,299 |
| Lenovo Googlebook 15 | 15.3-inch display, Intel Core Ultra 5 Panther Lake, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB storage. | $1,099 |
Pick by the feature you will use
- For a convertible: Acer is the only model in this first group identified as a 2-in-1.
- For portability: ASUS is the model Polanco singled out for its low weight and slim chassis.
- For the largest screen: Lenovo’s reported 15.3-inch display is the largest listed.
- For a smaller display: Dell’s reported 13.4-inch screen is the smallest listed.
- For OLED: Acer, ASUS, and HP are described as having OLED touchscreens.
These are feature-based distinctions, not a ranking of speed or endurance. The report gives different configurations but no consistent benchmark comparison, and a model’s best fit depends on its actual price and availability where you live.

Google describes Googlebook as a new laptop category built on Android technology with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Its stated focus is Gemini features and working with Android phones. Google also says the lineup includes a Glowbar, haptic glass trackpads, and backlit keyboards; these are category descriptions from the manufacturer, not independent evaluations.

The launch information does not establish how every feature works in everyday use, so buyers should look for model-specific software coverage before treating the category promises as a reason to upgrade.

Should you buy the ASUS Googlebook 14?
It is the most compelling pick in this report if portability is your priority: Polanco’s event impression centers on a remarkably light, thin design, and the listed configuration pairs that chassis with a 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen. The reported starting price is $1,299, so compare it with what the Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo models actually cost when you shop.

Do not treat ASUS’s claim of up to 18 hours of battery life or 1,000 nits peak HDR brightness as a result independently confirmed in the hands-on report. Google’s different battery figures are portfolio-level claims under stated video-playback and web-browsing categories, not a directly comparable test of the ASUS model. For now, the ASUS is the standout for design—not a demonstrated winner in performance or battery life.
