Ripple Studios describes it as an automatic activity history with daily summaries, categories, timelines, and trends. That is different from PowerToys: Microsoft’s free utility suite helps customize and operate Windows, but it is not presented as a history of your work. This is a switch for one specific need—not a reason to uninstall PowerToys.
Does PowerToys keep a history of what you worked on?
No. Microsoft describes PowerToys as a collection of Windows utilities, including tools for launching apps and commands, arranging windows, remapping keys, and working with files and screens. Its features help you do things on your PC; they are not an automatic record of which applications you used during the day. That distinction matters: PowerToys and Focus are not interchangeable products. Keep PowerToys if you use its Windows tools. Focus is relevant when the missing feature is a way to look back at your computer activity.

What does Focus remember?
Ripple Studios says Focus automatically records active-application activity and presents it as history, daily summaries, categories, timelines, and trends. That can help answer questions such as which apps occupied a workday or when you moved between them.

It does not mean the app understands your intentions or reconstructs every task. An application’s activity is a clue to what you were doing, not a complete description of the work: a timeline may show that an editor was active, for example, without knowing what you wrote or why you opened it. Focus and PowerToys solve different problems

Is Focus free, and does it work on Windows 11?
Ripple Studios says Focus is free for personal use, needs no account for its core experience, and supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x64 PCs. The company says it intends to keep the core personal experience free, while noting that premium features or future plans may be introduced; that is not a promise that every feature will always be free. Check the official Focus page for current product terms.
For comparison, Microsoft lists PowerToys support for Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11 on x64 and Arm64 PCs. Compatibility details can change, so consult Microsoft’s current documentation if your device or Windows version is near the minimum requirements.

Does Focus upload your activity history?
Ripple Studios says detailed activity history stays on the device and is not synced to the company, and that the history can be purged from the app. It also describes external activity categorization as optional and enabled only by the user. These are the developer’s statements, not the result of an independent privacy audit; read the product’s current privacy information and settings if the handling of activity data is decisive for you.

When is switching the right choice?
- Choose Focus for this need if you want an automatic, retrospective view of active applications rather than relying on memory or starting a timer.
- Keep PowerToys if you use its launchers, window tools, or other Windows utilities; it addresses a different problem.
- Use both if you want Windows customization and a separate activity history.
- Look for another kind of tracker if you need a record of task descriptions, exact actions, or reasons behind your work. Focus’s documented activity record does not establish that it captures those details.
