Twilight: Blue light filter, an Android app by Petr Nálevka (Urbandroid), lets you set different screen-filter schedules and strengths through the evening. That flexibility appealed to Android Police writer Faith Leroux, who wanted to keep reading on her phone without using Samsung’s Eye Comfort Shield settings. It is her personal preference—not evidence that Twilight improves sleep for everyone.
Why Leroux switched to Twilight
In her September 19, 2026 article, Leroux described wanting to read on her phone after work while also making it easier for herself to wind down. She preferred separate settings for evening reading and bedtime rather than relying on one adaptive filter. What Twilight lets you control
Twilight’s Google Play listing describes a screen filter that adapts to the time of day using local sunset and sunrise times. The listing identifies Petr Nálevka as the developer and showed an update date of February 9, 2026. Leroux used separate evening-reading and bedtime-reading profiles, increasing warmth and filter strength closer to bedtime. Scheduling options
Twilight’s documentation describes timing based on an alarm, custom times, or manual pause and resume. The schedule can therefore be tailored to a routine rather than tied only to sunset. Leroux reported that some transition controls are paid, though she found the free version sufficient. Consult Twilight’s documentation.

Warmth, strength, and readability
Twilight’s controls can make the display warmer and apply stronger filtering. Its documentation also describes dimming; stronger intensity and dimming reduce screen contrast, which can make text harder to read. If you use the phone for long reading sessions, adjust settings while reading and stop short of a level that makes the page uncomfortable or difficult to see.
Samsung Eye Comfort Shield already has useful controls
Switching apps is not necessary just to get scheduling or a color-temperature adjustment. Samsung Canada says Eye Comfort Shield offers Adaptive and Custom settings. Custom can be always on, scheduled from sunset to sunrise, or set to user-selected hours, and includes a color-temperature slider. Samsung notes that screens and settings vary by model and region. The practical distinction is how much control you want over separate phases of the evening. Twilight suited Leroux because she wanted distinct reading and bedtime profiles with gradual changes. If Samsung’s available schedule and slider already match your routine, the built-in feature may be enough.

Twilight’s listing says location permission supports sunset-and-sunrise timing. It may also request accessibility permission to filter notifications and the lock screen. Review those permissions and enable only features you want to use. The listing’s developer claims about blue-light filtering and sleep are product claims, not independent proof of a sleep benefit.

Leroux reported a one-time $10 price for Twilight Pro and said the free version met her needs. App pricing and feature availability can change, so check the current Google Play listing before deciding whether to pay.
