The keyboard app in this title is Samsung Keyboard, a practical Gboard alternative for people already using a Samsung Galaxy phone. Its appeal is less about a proven typing-speed advantage and more about Galaxy integration: Samsung offers writing and translation tools through the keyboard, plus access to Samsung Pass on supported devices. Those extras depend on your phone, software version, region, and language.
Why a Galaxy owner might prefer Samsung Keyboard
The matching September 24, 2026 article describes its author switching to Samsung Keyboard on a Galaxy S25 Ultra. The author said it felt smoother and more at home in One UI, and valued its Writing Assist features and Samsung Pass integration. Those are personal impressions, not results from a controlled comparison; no benchmark establishes that Samsung Keyboard is faster or more accurate than Gboard.

The practical case for trying it is ecosystem fit. If you use Samsung’s built-in services and your device supports the relevant keyboard features, keeping the default Samsung keyboard can put those tools close to where you type. If you prefer Gboard’s voice typing, however, that may still weigh in favor of Google’s keyboard—or you can check whether Google Voice Typing is available as the voice-input option with Samsung Keyboard.

Writing Assist, where supported
Samsung describes Writing Assist features accessible through Samsung Keyboard, including Chat Translation, Composer, Writing Style, and Spelling and Grammar. Samsung UK says, “Writing Assist helps professionals communicate with clarity and confidence, right from the Samsung Keyboard.” That is Samsung’s description of its own feature, not an independent assessment of its quality.

Samsung’s US support page says Writing Assist, also called Chat Assist on some devices, is available on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. Samsung lists 16 languages across 23 locales. Language support includes multiple English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Chinese locales, along with Korean, German, Italian, Japanese, Thai, Polish, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Russian, and Indonesian. Check the compatibility information for your own model and region; Samsung notes that a missing feature may mean the device is not compatible.
Samsung Pass from the keyboard
Samsung’s Gulf guide documents access to Samsung Pass from the keyboard’s More options menu. Before saved information is inserted, you verify your identity. This can be convenient if you already use Samsung Pass, but it is an authenticated access flow—not a reason to treat saved credentials as automatically exposed whenever you type.

Voice input and editing gestures
Samsung’s Gulf guide also covers voice input, undo and redo gestures, and keyboard translation. The matching article’s author preferred Gboard’s voice typing for longer, conversational dictation. That is one person’s preference, not a measured finding about either app. Samsung’s US keyboard settings instructions also allow Google Voice Typing to be selected as the voice-input option, so choosing Samsung Keyboard does not necessarily mean giving up Google’s voice input.

How to switch to Samsung Keyboard

- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Open Keyboard list and default.
- Tap Default keyboard, then choose Samsung Keyboard from the downloaded keyboards.
Samsung also documents access to Samsung Keyboard settings from the keyboard toolbar. After switching, try your usual languages, layout, and voice-input option. If a Writing Assist feature is absent, check Samsung’s compatibility details for your exact device and region rather than assuming it is part of every Samsung Keyboard installation.

Try Samsung Keyboard if you want your Galaxy’s keyboard to work closely with Samsung services and your device supports the writing tools you expect to use. Keep Gboard if its voice typing or your preferred setup matters more. You can also test Samsung Keyboard as the default and switch back through the same keyboard settings if it does not suit your workflow. There is no universal winner established by the available evidence; the choice turns on your device’s support and the features you personally rely on.
