A genuine one-day test of Siri AI versus ChatGPT needs to distinguish what Siri does itself from what it hands off to ChatGPT. The headline alone does not establish which device, settings, prompts, or results were involved, so it cannot support a firsthand verdict. What is clear as of October 5, 2026: Siri AI is beginning a beta rollout with Apple’s 2027 software releases, and Apple says it can use personal context, understand what is onscreen, and take more actions across apps. Those are announced capabilities, not independently verified outcomes.
What Siri AI is—and what Apple says it can do
Apple describes Siri AI as “a profoundly more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, onscreen awareness, and even more systemwide app actions.” That is Apple’s characterization, not an independent performance assessment. Its examples include drafting an email, editing and sharing photos, and using the camera to ask about an event poster and create calendar events. Apple announced the beta on September 14, 2026.

The announced feature set includes richer conversations and detailed responses; understanding personal context across messages, email, and photos; awareness of onscreen content; and additional actions across the system. Apple also says a dedicated Siri app will include conversation history synced across products with iCloud, and that visual intelligence will be available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. These descriptions establish what Apple plans to provide, not how reliably each feature works in everyday use.
Replacing ChatGPT may not mean removing it
Siri and ChatGPT are not necessarily separate options in this comparison. Apple Intelligence can integrate ChatGPT into Siri experiences. If a user permits the device to work with ChatGPT, Siri can pass a request to it. Siri asks for confirmation by default; users can configure requests to go automatically, while Siri still asks permission before sending a file. The ChatGPT extension is limited to regions where the ChatGPT app and service are available, according to OpenAI’s Apple Intelligence–Siri FAQ.

That makes the phrase “replaced ChatGPT with Siri” ambiguous: it might mean using Siri as the interface, while ChatGPT remains available behind the scenes. A credible account should say whether ChatGPT integration was enabled, whether confirmation prompts were accepted, and which answers came from Siri without ChatGPT versus requests handed off to ChatGPT. Otherwise, readers cannot tell which assistant actually handled a task.
What a useful one-day comparison should report
A fair account should identify the conditions that shaped the experience. The same prompts are useful where possible, but the writer should report the actual tasks and outcomes rather than present them as a controlled benchmark unless they were tested that way.

- Device, software, and region: name the device and operating-system version, the region and language, and whether the feature was available in that setup.
- ChatGPT handoff: state whether Apple Intelligence’s ChatGPT extension was enabled, how its confirmation setting was configured, and whether any tested request was routed to ChatGPT.
- Tasks and results: list the prompts or jobs attempted and describe what succeeded, failed, or required correction. Do not infer a result from Apple’s feature descriptions.
- What the comparison measures: distinguish actions across apps and access to device context from conversational quality, continuity, answer usefulness, and factual accuracy.
- Friction and recovery: report the effort, confirmation prompts, delays, and what happened when a task failed or needed a follow-up.
- Privacy choices: explain which requests were sent to ChatGPT and what controls or confirmations were involved.
These distinctions matter because integrated system actions and open-ended conversation are different jobs. A separate TechRadar hands-on comparison published September 18, 2026 reported that Siri AI’s iPhone app integration and context helped with a multistep device task, while ChatGPT Voice was stronger for natural conversation and broader exploration in that writer’s test. That is one writer’s experience, not a benchmark or a result that can be attributed to another test.
Who can try Siri AI, and where
Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device and a supported language. Apple lists iPhone 16 models or later and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as supported iPads, Macs, Watch models, and Vision Pro. Beta rollout begins in English with Apple’s 2027 software releases; French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are planned for the following month. Apple says Siri AI will initially be unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and unavailable in China while it works through regulatory requirements. Eligibility and rollout can change, so consult Apple’s current device and software support information before relying on a specific model, language, or region.

Apple says server-side Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, may have variable daily usage limits. The company says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future; it has not stated a specific fee in the cited announcement.

The available product information supports a useful comparison framework, but it does not document an author’s one-day experiment. Without the device, settings, tasks, and observations, there is no substantiated firsthand result to report about whether Siri AI replaced ChatGPT successfully, where it fell short, or which assistant performed better. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Apple is introducing Siri AI with announced strengths in personal context and system actions, and a fair comparison must disclose when Siri relies on ChatGPT.
