‘I have no money’: Forbes 30 Under 30 founder Sofia Panwar describes the embarrassment of financial collapse

Sofia Panwar, the UK entrepreneur who co-founded lingerie-subscription company Unndr, says liquidating the business left her without money and attending a Universal Credit appointment in 2026. In an Instagram video reported by Hindustan Times, Panwar described the shame of appearing to have “gone backwards” after building what she called a seven-figure business and appearing on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list.

What Sofia Panwar said happened

Panwar said she was on her way to a Universal Credit meeting when she recorded the video. “I’m on my way to my Universal Credit meeting. Yes, this is after Forbes. This is after building a 7-figure business. This is after all of that, because my business left me with nothing… I have no money,” she said.

Her account connects the immediate financial crisis to the liquidation of the business she had built. The available report does not state a precise revenue figure, the amount lost, the proceeds from liquidation, or the value of any remaining assets. “Seven-figure business” is therefore Panwar’s description as reported, not an independently audited financial measure.

From Unndr to a Universal Credit appointment

Unndr was founded in 2021 as a lingerie subscription service. Panwar and her co-founder were later named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list in the Retail and E-commerce category. Her LinkedIn profile indicates that she was associated with the brand until July 2026.

Universal Credit is a UK government benefit for people on a low income, out of work or unable to work. Payments are made monthly and are intended to help with basic living and housing costs. Applying for or attending an appointment does not, by itself, establish the amount a person receives or whether a claim has been approved; no benefit amount or eligibility decision was given in the report.

Why she said public embarrassment was harder than the loss

Panwar said the most difficult part was not only the financial reality. “I think the hardest part isn’t even the financial reality of it. It’s the shame that can come with feeling like you’ve gone backwards,” she said.

She also described “the embarrassment of people knowing” and “the voice in your head telling you that you should have it all figured out by now.” Those comments focus on the social and psychological pressure attached to a visible setback: people who knew her as a recognised founder could now see that she needed income support.

Panwar said she had debated posting the video for months. She had expected to share a comeback story rather than an account of the period before recovery was complete. By publishing it, she said she wanted to destigmatise setbacks and show that losses can affect more than a company’s balance sheet.

The broader message Panwar wanted to share

In her explanation, Panwar said people may be privately dealing with the loss of a business, job, relationship, money, confidence or an expected way of life. Her point was not that every founder will face the same outcome, but that public success can conceal financial insecurity and an unfinished recovery.

Her closing message was deliberately provisional: “This chapter is uncomfortable, humbling and sometimes heartbreaking. But it’s still only a chapter.” The wording presents the Universal Credit appointment and the aftermath of liquidation as part of an ongoing period, rather than a final statement about her career or future.

What is—and is not—established about the account

  • Panwar is reported to have co-founded Unndr in 2021 and to have appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list with her co-founder.
  • She said liquidating the business left her with no money and that she was attending a Universal Credit meeting.
  • Her LinkedIn profile indicates an association with Unndr until July 2026.
  • The report does not independently verify the company’s finances, the exact meaning of “seven-figure,” the liquidation balance, personal assets, debts or Universal Credit payment.
  • Her emotional description—shame, embarrassment and feeling that she had gone backwards—is her own account of the experience.

Why the story resonates beyond one founder

Founder narratives often end with a launch, a funding announcement, an award or a recovery headline. Panwar’s disclosure draws attention to the less visible interval between a company’s collapse and any next step. It also separates recognition from financial security: a place on a prestigious under-30 list did not guarantee that she would have cash after the business was liquidated.

For readers, the practical lesson is limited but important. A public achievement is not proof that someone has savings, ongoing income or protection from a failed venture. Conversely, seeking Universal Credit is not evidence that earlier achievements were fraudulent. Panwar’s video describes a personal transition, and the available facts do not support extending her experience to all entrepreneurs.
