A developer who goes by cinn opened their Downloads folder, found a pile of random files, and decided to write software instead of tidying by hand. The result so far is FileFlow, a desktop app that is still under construction. This article summarises what the author has said about it, what is planned, and what is not yet known.
The trigger: a Downloads folder nobody could parse
In a DEV Community post dated September 30, 2026, the author describes the contents of their Downloads folder as “random ZIP files, screenshots, installers, PDFs, old school stuff, and folders I’d forgotten existed.” They say they could have spent the time cleaning it. They started building an app instead.

That is a familiar developer impulse: a recurring annoyance becomes a project. It is also a personal account, not a product launch.

What FileFlow is meant to do
The stated goal is a simple workflow:
- Pick a folder.
- Analyze the files in it.
- Organize them automatically.
- Make it easy to undo the changes if something goes wrong.
These are the author’s goals, not independently verified capabilities. The undo step matters most, because any tool that moves files in bulk is only as trustworthy as its ability to reverse a mistake.

Features in progress
The author lists these as current work, and says plenty is still left to build:
- Automatic file categorization
- Custom sorting rules
- Directory scanning
- File statistics
- Organization previews
- Dark mode
Treat this as a roadmap rather than a specification. Previews and undo are common in this niche. Other community projects, such as a Windows organizer shared in a Reddit side-project post, mention both. That shows the features are recognisable, not that FileFlow has finished them.

Why build another one?
The author’s reasons are personal. The organizers they came across felt too complicated, carried features they did not need, seemed abandoned, or were not pleasant to use. No competing tool is named and no comparative testing is reported, so this is a statement of taste, not a verdict on existing software.
