Boy Offi9 WM is not an operating system you install. It is a portfolio website built to look and behave like one inside the browser. Its author, Boy Offi9, describes it as “a browser-based personal operating environment” and says it is “still a portfolio underneath.”
What Boy Offi9 WM is
The project was announced in a freeCodeCamp Forum post titled “I Built My Portfolio as a Browser-Based Operating System,” dated September 25, 2026. The author opens with the line that gives this article its title: “I got tired of making normal portfolio websites, so I built Boy Offi9 WM instead.”

A listing on DEV Community carries the same title, credits Boy Offi9, and is dated September 24, 2026. It is tagged #showdev, #webdev, #frontend and #portfolio. The two sites show adjacent dates, so each date belongs to its own page. This article does not claim one publication timestamp.

The interface, as the author describes it
The author’s own wording is: “It’s a browser-based personal operating environment with a desktop, mobile UI, terminal, app drawer, software store, quick settings, wallpapers, themes, and more.” Broken out, that means:
- Desktop and mobile UI: the author names both, so the project is presented as more than a desktop-only experience.
- Terminal: a command-line-style way to move around.
- App drawer and software store: the usual launcher and install metaphors. Here they presumably organize portfolio content as “apps.”
- Quick settings, wallpapers and themes: personalization controls borrowed from phone and desktop systems.
The post lists these features but does not explain how each one works. How the “apps” map to projects, an about page or contact details is not described, so this article does not guess.
The idea: a portfolio you explore, not read
The author states the concept in one sentence: “It’s still a portfolio underneath — I just made it something you can explore instead of simply read.” A conventional portfolio is a page with a fixed sequence: introduction, projects, contact. This one turns that content into an environment where the visitor chooses where to go. The interface itself becomes evidence of the author’s front-end skill, which fits the #frontend and #showdev tags on the DEV listing.

What the available sources do not establish
Everything above comes from the author’s own announcement. Several things the post does not tell us:
- the programming stack or framework
- the hosting provider or a public repository
- how the project was built
- whether anyone has user-tested it
- performance, accessibility or usability results
Treat the feature list as the author’s claims, not as tested findings. Nothing here was independently verified.

- 【What you Get】You will get 1*Pi 5 8GB Single Board,1*RasTech Case,1*Active Cooler,1*Screwdriver,1*Installation instructions,12-month free warranty, lifetime service, 24-hour prompt and friendly response.
- 【More Connectors】There are two USB 3.0 ports(5Gbps simultaneously) and two USB 2.0 ports, which triple total bandwidth ,support any combination of up to two cameras or displays. Peak SD card performance is doubled through support for the SDR104 high-speed mode. It provides a smooth desktop experience for you. Offer Gigabit Ethernet and a PCIe interface, along with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0/BLE wireless capability. The RasTech Pi 5 Kit use the new 27W 5.1V 5A USB-C power connector.
- 【 Support Dual 4Kp60 Display 】Each of the two microHDMI sockets can control a 4K display at 60 Hertz, now support HDR, offering super HD video for media streaming projects. RPi 5 is the first RPi model that comes with a PCI Express port (PCIe 2.0 x1 with 500 MB/s) to attach SSDs (requires separate M.2 HAT).
- 【 Excellent Chips And Applications】Pi 5 is a full-size Pi computer using silicon built in-house at Pi. The RP1 “southbridge” provides the bulk of the I/O capabilities for Pi 5. Pi 5 is more friendly and convenient in the development of Internet of Things, Web development, machine identification, automatic control and other electronic equipment applications and network.
- 【 Faster CPU, Better GPU 】 Pi 5 features a Broadcom BCM2712 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, it delivers a 2–3× increase in CPU performance relative to RaspberryPi 4. The 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU is compatible to OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2, substantial uplift in graphics performance. Pi 5 Offers lightning-fast CPU speed, a PCI Express interface, a Real Time Clock (RTC) and a power button and runs significantly cooler than Pi 4.
How to judge an “OS-style” portfolio
The sources do not compare approaches, so this section is editorial analysis, not findings about Boy Offi9 WM. If you are weighing a similar build, or evaluating one as a visitor or hiring manager, these are the questions that matter:
| Question | Why it matters for an exploratory interface |
|---|---|
| How fast can a visitor find the work and the contact details? | A recruiter may spend under a minute. Every window, drawer or terminal command between them and a project is a cost. |
| Does it work on both desktop and mobile? | Windowed metaphors are natural with a mouse and awkward on a small touchscreen. A separate mobile UI, as this project names, is a direct answer to that. |
| How much interaction is needed to understand it? | The metaphor should make navigation clearer, not require a tutorial. |
| Is it accessible and usable? | Keyboard navigation, screen-reader support and readable contrast are easy to lose in a custom interface. The post’s feature list does not answer this either way. |
Why the approach is worth noticing
The appeal is differentiation. Many portfolios use similar layouts, and a themed, personalizable environment is memorable. The trade-off is that novelty must not get in the way of the basic job: showing work and making contact easy. A project like this works best when the underlying content stays plain and findable, which is the “portfolio underneath” the author points to.
