Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA first-command failure does not identify the cause by itself. The n8n AWS guide’s detailed deployment route is based on EKS, while its Docker Compose guide describes a Linux-server setup. Before changing anything, establish which guide and command you used, then check that route’s prerequisites. Without the command, operating system, logged-in user, and full error output, the cause of this specific failure cannot be confirmed.
First, identify which n8n setup path you followed
n8n offers its hosted n8n Cloud service as well as self-hosting options, including Docker. These are different operating choices: with Cloud, n8n manages the hosting infrastructure; with self-hosting, you run and maintain the deployment. The n8n Docs overview describes the available options.

For AWS, do not assume that every instruction applies to every kind of server. n8n’s AWS deployment guide names EC2 and EKS, but its detailed deployment route is based on EKS and includes AWS CLI setup and authentication prerequisites. The separate Docker Compose guide is a Linux-server installation route. Combining commands from different routes or Linux distributions can lead you to check the wrong prerequisites.

- If you are installing with Docker Compose on a Linux server, follow the Compose guide’s instructions for that setup.
- If you chose n8n Cloud, an EC2 or EKS installation command is not part of that hosted setup.
Collect the details needed to diagnose the first command
The incident description does not include the command or error, so it cannot support a specific diagnosis. Capture the complete terminal output, including the command, every error line, and any exit status shown. Also note the operating system or server image, the SSH username, and whether the target is EC2, EKS, or another environment.
#1 Best Overall
- Durable Carbon Steel: Rack mount screws and cage nuts are made of high-quality carbon steel with a black finish for high strength and dependable durability.
- Easy Installation: Clear metric threads and uniform pitch for better grip. Nylon washers help secure screws and protect equipment surfaces.
- Organized Storage: All parts are packed in a portable storage box for easy organization and access.
- Wide Compatibility: Fits most square-hole racks and cabinets—ideal for server racks, network cabinets, equipment enclosures, and A/V gear.
- 20-Set Kit: Includes 20 mounting screws with nylon washers (M6 x 20 mm) and 20 square cage nuts—40 pieces in total—meeting daily install and replacement needs.
Those details distinguish common but different situations: a command may be missing, Docker may reject the current user, or a command may be valid only for a different deployment path. Do not apply a fix based only on a generic “first command” failure.
If the command uses Docker Compose, check Docker and Compose in that session
For a Docker Compose installation, n8n’s Linux guide directs users to verify Docker and Compose are installed. Run the version checks in the same shell session where the setup command failed:

docker --version
docker compose version
If either command is reported as unavailable, the relevant prerequisite is not available in that session. Check the installation steps for the operating system and route you are using rather than substituting instructions from another distribution.

If Docker reports permission denied
Check which user is logged in and whether the guide’s optional Docker-group setup for non-root users applies. A change to group membership may require starting a new session with the updated group. The exact error matters, so do not assume that group access is the fix until you have confirmed the user and command that produced it.

- Complete Rack Mount Kit: Includes 40 pack M6x16mm cage nuts, screws, and plastic washers, ideal for securing servers in racks or cabinets
- Durable & Corrosion-Resistant: Made of metal with black nickel plating for long-lasting strength and rust prevention, perfect for demanding environments like data centers or industrial setups
- Easy Installation: Spring-loaded cage nuts snap securely into square rack holes, while plastic washers protect equipment surfaces from scratches during tightening
- Universal Compatibility: Designed for standard 19-inch server racks with square mounting holes, ensuring seamless integration with most rack-mountable hardware
- Heavy-Duty Performance: Engineered for durability, these nuts and screws support high-stress applications, from data center servers to industrial AV systems
Check the sandbox stack requirements only if you are deploying that stack
For n8n’s particular Compose sandbox stack—not every minimal n8n installation—the documentation specifies Docker Engine, Compose v2, at least 4 GB of RAM, and 2 vCPUs. Its documented launch command is:
docker compose up -d
Use those resource requirements only when they match the sandbox stack you selected. They do not establish what caused an earlier command to fail.
If the command worked but the n8n page is unreachable
A web-interface access problem is different from a shell command that never ran. Once deployment has completed, n8n’s Compose guidance recommends checking firewall settings and DNS if the service cannot be reached from outside the machine. Those network checks do not explain a command-not-found or permission-denied error at the start of installation.

Configure AWS workflow credentials after installation
AWS credentials used by an n8n workflow are a separate concern from installing n8n. For an n8n instance hosted on EC2, the n8n AWS credentials documentation describes using an instance profile; the credential provider accesses system credentials through EC2 instance metadata with IMDSv2. That setup is relevant when a workflow needs AWS permissions, not as an explanation for a pre-install command failure.

Choosing between Cloud, EC2, and EKS
The documented options differ in who runs the hosting infrastructure and which deployment model you operate. The available n8n documentation identifies Cloud, EC2, and EKS options, but does not provide a basis here for comparing their price, performance, or scaling.
Quick Recap
| Option | What the documentation establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| n8n Cloud | A hosted n8n option. n8n Docs | A price or performance comparison with self-hosting. |
| EC2 | An AWS hosting option named by n8n. n8n’s AWS guide | A comparative cost, performance, or scaling advantage. |
| EKS | An AWS hosting option; the detailed route in n8n’s AWS guide is EKS-based. n8n’s AWS guide | A comparative cost, performance, or scaling advantage. |
