Clipping is paid work that turns moments from longer client videos into short, vertical social posts. In an October 12, 2026 report carried by AOL, Londoner Eknoor Singh said he earns at least £10,000 a month—more than £120,000 a year at that rate. That is one person’s reported income, not a typical or independently verified outcome.
What does a video clipper do?
A clipper takes a longer video supplied by a client—such as a clothing brand, record label, movie studio, podcaster or influencer—and selects moments that might hold viewers’ attention. The clipper edits those moments into short vertical videos, typically 30 to 60 seconds in the report, then posts them to platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Singh says he looks for moments that are funny, quick to watch and engaging. AOL’s October 12, 2026 report describes the work as selection, editing and distribution, rather than simply uploading an unedited excerpt.

Streaming-industry analyst Devin Nash warned that the work can mean “watch hours and hours of content, and they just live in that world”. The job’s less visible cost is therefore time spent watching, finding strong moments, editing, and publishing consistently.

In the reported model, clients or intermediaries pay people to make and distribute clips, with some compensation linked to views. Singh put it this way: “The more views a clip gets, the more money I make.” The AOL report says clippers may earn up to $3 (£2.30) per 1,000 views, but it does not establish that as a universal rate, standard contract, or guaranteed payment schedule. Rates and terms depend on the specific arrangement.

There are other reported examples, but they are individual claims rather than benchmarks. Singh said he earned $300 from an Instagram clip featuring Dua Lipa. Ethan Weems, 24, said he earns at least $1,000 a month as side income making short videos for YouTuber and podcaster Caleb Hammer. The report supplies no audited accounts or independent data for either claim.
How much do clippers earn—and what does the £120,000 claim prove?
Singh’s reported “at least £10,000 a month” is the basis for the headline’s more-than-£120,000 annual figure. The article does not provide audited accounts, a calculation method, a sample of workers, or representative earnings data, so the figure should be read as Singh’s personal claim—not an expected salary or a reliable forecast for someone starting out.

Social-media consultant Lia Haberman cautioned: “The vast majority make little to nothing.” The report also gives examples of large reach, but those numbers are attributed claims, not independently audited campaign results:

Why do companies pay for clips?
The report’s account is that companies see clips as a potentially cheaper way to promote content than traditional social-media advertising, with the possibility of reaching viewers organically. Host Jimmy McLoughlin described clips as “almost like trailers for the main events”: a short extract can introduce a longer podcast or video to people who might not otherwise watch it. This is a rationale offered by people in the report, not a measured comparison of campaign costs or effectiveness.
Stanfield, founder of Clipping Culture, argues that “People’s attention spans are getting shorter and shorter.” Treat that as his explanation for the appeal of short clips, not as a demonstrated statistic about audience behaviour.

What equipment do you need?
Singh says he needs a mobile phone and a decent internet connection. That is his account of the setup he uses; the report does not establish a universal minimum specification or say that every clipper can do the work with the same equipment. It does not support a claim that a professional camera, lighting kit, or particular computer is required.
Where can you find clipping work?
The AOL report names Reddit and Discord communities, as well as Clipping Culture, Vyro, Whop and Kick, as places where clippers and clients may connect. It says some of those sites charge companies a fee. These are examples reported in October 2026, not endorsements or guarantees that a site currently has jobs, accepts applicants in every location, or offers favourable terms. Check current eligibility, fees, payout rules, and client and usage terms directly before committing time.

What should you check before accepting a clipping job?
- Payment basis: Confirm whether compensation is a fixed fee, view-based, or a combination, and ask how views are counted, when payment is due, and what happens if a post is removed.
- Rights to the material: Get clear permission covering the source video, music, and any other included third-party material, including the platforms and uses the client expects.
- Platform monetization rules: Permission from a client does not automatically make a clip eligible for monetization. YouTube says its reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement; minimally changed content can fail its monetization guidance even if the uploader has permission. Its guidance also requires relevant rights to third-party visual and audio elements for commercial use. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies and check current platform policies for the service where you plan to post.
- Workload and expectations: Clarify how many clips are expected, who chooses the moments, who edits captions and formats, and who publishes and monitors the posts. The viewing and editing hours matter when judging whether a view-based arrangement is worthwhile.
