Typewise separately says that, after users acclimatize to its layout and gestures, they type 33% faster overall and make fewer typos. That is a company claim: the available blog page does not provide enough information about study size, testing protocol, or independent validation to verify the result. It is not the same statistic as the reviewer’s reported reduction by half.
In practical terms, whether the layout helps you is something to test in your own messages. A new key arrangement can feel slower or less accurate at first, and Typewise support reports user adaptation times ranging from 10 minutes to two weeks. That range is the company’s report, not a guaranteed learning schedule.

How to decide whether to switch
- Check your actual pain point. Is it missed thumb taps, autocorrect changing intended words, or a feature or appearance you want? A new layout is most relevant if the key arrangement itself is causing trouble.
- Try the layout you would actually use. Typewise offers hexagonal and traditional layouts. Test the hexagonal option with both one-thumb and two-thumb typing if those are part of your routine.
- Give adaptation time, but track errors. Typewise’s reported adaptation range is wide. Compare a similar set of ordinary messages before and after trying it, and note both typos and corrections you have to undo.
- Check language and workflow needs. Typewise says it supports more than 40 languages. Confirm that your language and the features you rely on are available in the current version; also check whether Gboard’s suggestions, correction, themes, sounds, or vibration matter to you.
- Keep the option that works in real use. If the hexagons remain uncomfortable or do not reduce your own errors after a fair trial, the traditional Typewise layout or Gboard may suit you better.
