ShellSSH is presented by its developer as an SSH client designed to feel fast, clean, and easy to use. The available description comes from a developer-authored Reddit post, not product documentation, so it does not establish ShellSSH’s supported platforms, security features, compatibility, or full capabilities. The post also described cloud sync as a Pro feature that was temporarily being enabled free for people who requested it; treat that offer as time-sensitive and confirm it directly before relying on it.
The named alternatives serve different kinds of workflows. Termius is a dedicated, cross-platform SSH client with host and key management and SFTP, according to its maker. Termux is an Android terminal and Linux environment where you can install and run OpenSSH. PuTTY is another named alternative, but the available information here is not enough to make a detailed comparison. The practical choice depends on whether you want an organized SSH app, a broader command-line environment, or a particular client whose current features you have verified.
What is ShellSSH?
ShellSSH is an SSH client introduced in a developer-authored Reddit post dated October 2, 2026, titled “I built an SSH client — normally Pro Cloud Sync, free if you request it.” The post’s search-result excerpt describes the app’s aim as fast, clean, and easy to use. That is the developer’s positioning, not an independently verified performance assessment.
The same excerpt says cloud sync is normally a Pro feature and was temporarily being enabled free for people who requested it. Because this is a time-limited offer described in a social post, check with the developer for current availability and terms. The accessible description does not establish which devices ShellSSH supports, how it handles credentials, whether it supports file transfer, or what security controls it provides.

How do ShellSSH, Termius, Termux and PuTTY differ?
The clearest distinction in the available information is between a dedicated SSH client and a general-purpose terminal environment. The comparison below sticks to what the cited sources establish; it is not a feature-by-feature test.
| Tool | What the available information establishes | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| ShellSSH | A developer-authored Reddit excerpt describes an intended fast, clean, easy-to-use SSH client and says cloud sync is normally Pro, with a temporary free-on-request offer. (Developer-authored Reddit post, October 2, 2026) | Supported platforms, connection and credential features, file transfer, security details, current plans, and whether the sync offer remains available. The post excerpt does not establish these details. |
| Termius | Its maker presents it as a cross-platform SSH client with host organization, key management, SFTP, and vault and sync features. Its pricing page lists a free Starter tier and paid plans. (Termius pricing page) | Current plan names, platform availability, and which features belong to each plan; these can change, so consult the live pricing page. |
| Termux | An Android terminal emulator and Linux environment. Its documentation describes using OpenSSH’s ssh client for remote servers and installing packages through APT. (Termux official site) |

| PuTTY | It is named as an alternative in the available search result, but a detailed review of its official documentation was not available. | Check the official project documentation for current platform support, protocols, features, and licensing before comparing it in detail. |
Is Termux an SSH client?
Termux can make SSH connections, but it is more than a dedicated SSH client. The Termux site describes it as “an Android terminal emulator and Linux environment app that works directly with no rooting or setup required.” It also says users can “Access remote servers using the ssh client from OpenSSH.” In practice, that means you use a shell, install OpenSSH and other packages through APT, and run SSH commands from the Android environment.

This distinction matters if you want more than remote logins. A general terminal can support command-line work on the device as well as connections to servers. A host-focused app, by contrast, may be a more direct fit if your main need is managing connections through an interface. The available sources do not establish whether ShellSSH or PuTTY offers any particular feature in this comparison.
When should you choose a dedicated SSH app or a general terminal?
Choose a dedicated SSH app when connection management is the priority
If you mainly connect to a set of remote machines, look for clear host organization, key handling, session management, and file-transfer support. Termius documents several of these capabilities; for ShellSSH, the accessible post does not confirm them. Before committing to any app, check how it stores credentials, whether it syncs them, and what controls you have over that sync.

Choose Termux when you want an Android command-line environment
Termux is the more relevant option when you want to run SSH alongside other terminal tools and packages on Android. It is not simply a graphical saved-host interface: the documented workflow uses OpenSSH from the command line. For longer sessions on a tablet, Termux says it supports Bluetooth keyboards, keyboard shortcuts, external displays, and full mouse support. Those are Termux capabilities; they do not establish accessory compatibility for ShellSSH.
Evaluate PuTTY against current official documentation
PuTTY is part of the title’s comparison, but the information available here does not support claims about its present platforms, protocols, licensing, or feature set. Check its official project documentation for those specifics rather than assuming that the name alone makes it interchangeable with a mobile terminal or another SSH app.

What should you check before selecting an SSH workflow?
Compare the tasks you actually need to do, not just the apps’ labels. These are useful decision points drawn from the documented differences between Termius and Termux, plus the unanswered questions around ShellSSH:
Quick Recap
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Device: Confirm the client supports the desktop or mobile platforms you use. Termius describes itself as cross-platform; the available ShellSSH description does not state its supported platforms.
- Host and session management: Decide whether you want an app organized around saved hosts or are comfortable connecting through terminal commands.
- File transfer: If moving files matters, verify SFTP support and whether it is included in the plan you intend to use. Termius lists SFTP among its capabilities.
- Credentials and sync: Find out how keys and other credentials are handled, what sync stores, and which plan or settings control it. Do not infer ShellSSH’s security model from its short Reddit description.
- Local tools: If you need a broader Android shell for packages and command-line utilities, Termux’s documented Linux environment is directly relevant.
- Cost and availability: Check current plan details on the provider’s own page. In particular, the ShellSSH free-on-request sync offer was described as temporary, not as a guaranteed ongoing option.
