The publisher announced an open Steam playtest running October 6–20, 2026; Steam lists the full game for 2027. The playtest is available through Steam, but requesting access does not guarantee immediate entry.
What is I Am Plague?
I Am Plague is a dark incremental game built around a rat horde fighting its way up through an underground fortress. Combat is automatic, while the player’s choices about mutations, abilities, routes and upgrades shape how each run develops, according to the Steam store listing and the publisher announcement carried by Capsule Computers.

When does the Steam playtest run, and how do you request access?
Digital Vortex Entertainment announced that the open playtest runs October 6–20, 2026. Steam’s listing presents a playtest access request and says players will be notified when the developer is ready for more participants, so submitting a request should not be treated as instant acceptance.

There is a date discrepancy in available listings: SteamDB’s separate playtest-app record shows an October 18 invite-end timestamp, rather than the publisher’s announced October 20 end date. The October 20 date is therefore best understood as the publisher’s stated playtest period, not a date independently confirmed by Steam metadata.
How does the announced gameplay work?
Automatic combat and build choices
The rat horde fights automatically. Players choose mutations and abilities that affect combat, and can combine effects as they ascend. The publisher also describes “Visages”: enemy skulls that change the character’s class and grant abilities. These are announced features, not independently verified hands-on observations.

The playtest is a chance to try the game before its planned 2027 release, subject to access being granted through Steam. The announced full-game scale—200-plus floors and 50-plus mutations—should not be taken as a promise that all of that content is present in the test. The available descriptions establish the intended systems and requirements, but do not report hands-on results or specify the playtest’s exact content.
