Short answer: Steam currently marks I Am Plague’s Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown. The listing separately shows Partial Controller Support, which is not the same as a Deck approval or a Verified rating. The game advertises permanent upgrades between runs, but its listing does not document session saves, Steam Cloud, or cross-device save transfer. To join the playtest, use the Steam listing’s Request access option; the publisher announced the test through October 19, 2026, so check the live page for the current status.

Does I Am Plague work on Steam Deck?
Steam’s current answer is Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown. That is a status label, not a statement that the game fails on Deck. It means the store page does not currently provide a positive compatibility rating that you can rely on.
Valve describes its compatibility system as a way to show at a glance how games will play on Deck and Steam Machine. A game with a known rating can receive a category based on criteria such as controls, text legibility, display behavior and launcher requirements. I Am Plague does not have that confirmed category on the listing covered here.

Why “Partial Controller Support” is not a Deck rating
The same page lists Partial Controller Support. This tells you that the game supports a controller in at least some circumstances, but it does not certify every menu, prompt or input method on a Steam Deck. A Deck is a PC with its own control layout, display and operating environment; a generic controller-support flag cannot substitute for Valve’s Deck assessment.
Therefore, three statements should not be conflated:
- Partial Controller Support: some controller input is supported.
- Steam Deck Compatibility Unknown: Steam has not supplied a usable Deck rating on the listing.
- Verified or Playable: a positive Valve compatibility category, which is not currently shown for this game.
What to check before relying on Deck play
- Open the current I Am Plague page in Steam and read the compatibility label shown at that moment.
- Check whether the label has changed from Unknown to a named compatibility category.
- Read the input information alongside the rating. Partial Controller Support still may require a mouse, keyboard or manual control remapping for particular screens.
- If you need a dependable handheld experience today, treat the Unknown label as an unresolved requirement rather than as a purchase assurance.
No hands-on Deck test or developer statement confirming performance, controls, text size or battery behavior is documented here. Do not present the listing as proof that the game runs well on every Deck model or configuration.

Does I Am Plague save your progress?
I Am Plague clearly advertises permanent progression between runs. Resources collected during an attempt can be spent on persistent horde upgrades, and mutations can be unlocked for later attempts. In practical terms, a failed run is intended to contribute to the strength or options available in future runs.
That design description answers a gameplay question, not a file-management question. It does not establish that the game can save an unfinished session, restore a run after closing the application, synchronize saves through Steam Cloud, or move progress automatically between computers.
What is confirmed
- Resources from a run can fund upgrades that remain available for future attempts.
- Mutation unlocks are described as persistent choices that affect later runs.
- The listing presents this loop as part of the game’s incremental and roguelite structure.
What the available information does not confirm
- Whether an in-progress run can be saved and resumed.
- Whether completed-run progression is stored in a local save file in a particular location.
- Whether Steam Cloud backs up or synchronizes that file.
- Whether progress transfers between a desktop PC and a Steam Deck or another computer.
- What happens to a run after a crash, forced quit or uninstall.
Until the developer or an updated Steam page specifies those functions, plan on the distinction: permanent upgrades are an in-game progression system, while technical save persistence remains undocumented. If preserving a specific run matters to you, confirm the behavior in the current build or obtain a direct statement from the developer rather than inferring it from the word “permanent.”

How do I join the I Am Plague playtest?
The Steam listing provides a request workflow rather than an instant-access promise. Its instruction says: “Request access and you’ll get notified when the developer is ready for more participants.” Use these steps:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open the live I Am Plague store page in Steam.
- Locate the playtest panel and choose Request access.
- Submit the request through Steam. The button records your interest; it does not state that every requester is admitted immediately.
- Watch for a Steam notification or the account email associated with Steam. The listing says participants will be notified when the developer is ready for more people.
- Before expecting an invitation, return to the listing and confirm that the playtest is still open and that the access panel is still present.
What the October 19 date means
Digital Vortex Entertainment announced the playtest through October 19, 2026. That is an announced end date, not a guarantee that the test will accept every request until the last minute or that it cannot be extended, shortened or closed to new participants earlier. Because the date is time-sensitive, use the live Steam page to verify the current window before planning around it.
A request also should not be described as a guaranteed key, a guaranteed invitation or proof that the test is running on your account. The wording on the listing specifically ties notification to the developer’s readiness for more participants.

What kind of game is I Am Plague?
Steam describes I Am Plague as an incremental game with automatic combat and roguelite elements. You select mutations and routes, then run through encounters while combat proceeds automatically. Resources from unsuccessful attempts feed the permanent upgrade loop, giving later runs more options or strength.
The store description lists 200+ dungeon floors and 50+ mutations for the planned full game. Those figures describe the intended release, not a verified count of content available in the time-limited playtest. A playtest build may expose only part of the planned structure, and the listing does not establish that every advertised floor or mutation is currently accessible.
How to interpret the progression loop
- During a run: you choose routes and mutations while automatic combat resolves encounters.
- After a run: collected resources can be invested in permanent horde upgrades.
- Across later runs: unlocked mutations and upgrades expand the choices available for another attempt.
This loop explains why the game can advertise lasting advancement even though the technical details of save files and cloud synchronization remain unspecified.

Availability, release timing and what you can buy
The Steam listing captured for this FAQ shows a planned full-game release in 2027. It was not available for purchase as a finished game at that point. The playtest request is therefore a separate, limited-access route to an in-development build, not an early purchase of the complete release.
Dates and access states are particularly volatile for unreleased games. A changed store label, a removed request button or a revised release year would supersede the October 13, 2026 snapshot described here. Check the listing immediately before making a decision.
Common mistakes to avoid
“It has controller support, so it is Steam Deck compatible.”
Not necessarily. Partial Controller Support and Valve’s Deck compatibility rating describe different things. The current Deck label is Unknown.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Permanent upgrades mean the game definitely has cloud saves.”
No. Permanent upgrades describe how the game carries progression from one run to another. The available listing information does not document Steam Cloud, cross-device synchronization or resume-after-quit behavior.
“Request access means I can play immediately.”
No. Steam says you will be notified when the developer is ready for more participants. Admission is not stated to be automatic.
“The playtest contains all 200-plus floors and 50-plus mutations.”
Those are planned full-game figures. They should not be reported as confirmed playtest content counts.
Quick Recap
Practical checklist before you install or request access
- Confirm the Steam Deck label on the live store page.
- Read Partial Controller Support as a limited input note, not a compatibility guarantee.
- Assume only the advertised between-run progression is established; verify session-save and cloud behavior separately.
- Use Request access and wait for the developer’s notification rather than expecting instant entry.
- Check whether the October 19, 2026 playtest date and access status are still current.
- Remember that 200+ floors, 50+ mutations and the 2027 release year are planned full-game information, not proof of what the current test build contains.
