In a PC Gamer feature published October 2, 2026, Joshua Wolens describes installing the ZombieInfection mod in Grand Theft Auto 5. Its simple premise is effective: zombies appear among Los Santos pedestrians, and contact can infect other city-dwellers until a small encounter starts to spread. The result is less a polished survival campaign than an outbreak colliding with GTA’s familiar street-level chaos.
How ZombieInfection changes a walk through Los Santos
The feature’s appeal is the way an ordinary GTA 5 street scene can turn into a growing problem. Zombies mingle with pedestrians; when they make contact with other people in the city, those people can become part of the outbreak. A few infected figures can therefore become a horde rather than a contained encounter. PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 feature describes one author’s session, not a systematic test or a full survival-mode review.

The outbreak is dangerous, but not unstoppable
In that installation, zombies were relatively slow and remained vulnerable to the hazards already built into the city, including cars and fire. That keeps the encounters grounded in GTA’s usual mix of improvisation and mayhem. But staying in close contact for too long could kill the player character, so the threat can escalate if the player treats the infected as harmless scenery.

Other GTA 5 zombie mods take different approaches
ZombieInfection’s defining idea is contagious contact. Other mods described on their listings aim for a broader survival loop, with mechanics such as stamina, fuel, looting, camps, or defenses. These feature descriptions are not proof that a mod works with a particular current GTA V build: check the current listing, requirements, and recent comments before installing.

The PC Gamer feature names ZombieInfection but does not give its version or requirements, so it cannot establish whether that mod—or any alternative—supports the game build on a particular PC. Use the live listing for the exact mod you choose, verify its stated requirements and file status, and treat comments as individual experiences rather than a compatibility guarantee.
