That is the project story—not proof that blur produced the sale. To establish cause, I would need deployment records, conversion data and a credible comparison. The CSS effect itself is straightforward; whether it helped this interface is a separate question.
What `backdrop-filter: blur()` changes
backdrop-filter applies graphical effects to the area behind an element. With blur(), that background is blurred while the element remains in front. The effect is visible only when the element’s background is at least partly transparent; an opaque fill hides what is behind it. MDN’s property reference documents the effect and its requirements.

On an AI results screen, a translucent panel can soften whatever sits behind the results while leaving the text and controls in the panel unblurred. The blur is a visual treatment, not a conversion mechanism by itself. If the same change also altered contrast, positioning, opacity or the size of clickable controls, those changes could affect how the interface looks or works independently of the blur.

What the three-month sales story does—and does not—show
The reported sequence is that the interface changed and a zero-sales stretch ended. Without timestamped deployment evidence and sales analytics, it is not possible to verify the history or attribute the outcome to the CSS. A sale after a visual change can be a coincidence; it does not establish that the change caused the sale or that another site should expect the same result.

A meaningful assessment would start by specifying the conversion event—for example, a completed purchase—and checking the deployment time against traffic and conversion records. A controlled comparison between the old and new interface would offer stronger evidence if other conditions were kept comparable. If that is not feasible, a pre/post review should account for other changes that might explain a difference. These steps describe how to test the claim; they are not findings about this project.
Browser support and a graceful fallback
MDN labels backdrop-filter Baseline 2024, meaning it has worked across the latest devices and browser versions since September 2024. That does not guarantee support on older browsers or devices. Can I Use reports 96.36% — Can I Use, 2026, based on StatCounter GlobalStats usage-share data for August 2026. That is a global estimate, not a measurement of this site’s visitors or a promise that the effect renders identically everywhere. Check the current compatibility data against the browsers and devices your audience actually uses.

Keep a readable surface even when the blur is unavailable. Feature detection lets supported browsers receive the effect while others retain the base styling. web.dev recommends a fallback image rather than a polyfill when the property is unsupported; a plain translucent background can also preserve the essential surface treatment if that suits the design.

Performance and visual checks before shipping
web.dev warns: “Caution: backdrop-filter may harm performance. Test it before deploying.” The warning is a reason to test on relevant devices, not evidence that this particular interface was slow. The overlay also creates a new stacking context, so review layering and interactions rather than assuming blur is the only consequential change.
- Check text contrast against the actual content behind the panel, including when the blur is absent.
- Verify that buttons, links and other hit targets remain easy to see and use.
- Inspect stacking and overlays for unexpected layering caused by the new stacking context.
- Test rendering responsiveness on the devices and browsers your visitors use, especially lower-powered devices.
- Compare the blurred treatment with a translucent surface or a pre-blurred fallback image; evaluate support, legibility, responsiveness and implementation complexity rather than assuming one option wins.
For the sales question, keep the design evaluation separate from the conversion evaluation: confirm that the intended effect appears and remains usable, then assess sales with defined events and comparable data. A CSS change can be worth keeping as a design choice without claiming that it caused a business outcome.
