Craft a Furnace at a Workbench with 6 logs of any accepted tree type and 6 stone resources of any accepted type. Place it, load fuel and raw ore, activate it, then collect the ingots. A Tier 1 Furnace queues two ore stacks; Tier 2 adds a third slot and is reported to smelt about 30% faster. Because Hytale remains in Early Access, check the current build if a recipe, timer, fuel value, or upgrade effect differs.

What the Furnace is for
The Furnace converts mined ore into metal ingots. Those ingots are used in better tools, weapons, armor, and higher-tier workstation recipes, so building one is a central step in Hytale’s progression rather than an optional decoration. Copper and iron are typically the first materials you process, followed by thorium, cobalt, adamantite, mithril, and other progression metals as you reach new areas.

The machine is deliberately simple, but it will not run automatically. You must supply fuel, load ore, start the process, and remove the finished ingots. Fuel keeps the furnace operating; it does not make an individual recipe smelt faster. The ore recipe determines processing time.
Furnace recipe and prerequisites
The recipe appears in the Workbench crafting tab. The Hytale Guide Community Wiki lists a three-second craft time and the following ingredients: Furnace recipe and item data.

| Requirement | Amount | Where to get or use it |
|---|---|---|
| Tree log | 6 | Any tree-log variety accepted by the current build |
| Stone | 6 | Any accepted stone resource |
| Crafting station | 1 Workbench | Open the Workbench’s crafting interface and select the Furnace |
AllThings. How independently describes the same six-log, six-stone recipe and Workbench requirement: Hytale furnace crafting and smelting explained. The guides report no special floor, foundation, or clearance requirement, so you can place the Furnace in a normal base room or work area.
How to build and place a Furnace
- Make a Workbench. Place it where you can access its crafting tab.
- Collect six tree logs. The recipe accepts any tree-log type that the current game build recognizes as a log.
- Collect six stone resources. You do not need a particular stone tier for the basic Furnace according to the listed recipe.
- Open the Workbench. Find the Furnace in the crafting tab and confirm the recipe.
- Craft it. The Hytale Guide Community Wiki lists a three-second craft time.
- Place the Furnace. Choose a convenient location near storage and your mining return point. No special clearance requirement is reported.
How to use the Furnace
The interface separates fuel, ore input, and finished output. The exact visual layout can change during Early Access, but the operating sequence is consistent in the current guides.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the Furnace interface. Interact with the placed Furnace.
- Add burnable material to the fuel slot. Use trunks, charcoal, sap, sticks, or plant fiber, subject to what the current build accepts.
- Put raw ore in the input slot. Tier 1 has two input-stack positions. Tier 2 has three.
- Activate the Furnace. Loading fuel and ore alone does not start processing; use the interface’s start or activation control.
- Wait for processing. Ore is handled sequentially. The leftmost non-empty input is processed first, then the next stack begins when the first is complete, provided fuel remains.
- Collect the ingots. Remove finished output from the output slot so the Furnace can continue without a full-output blockage.
AllThings. How documents the two-stack Tier 1 and three-stack Tier 2 queues and the sequential behavior: queue and processing explanation. GPORTAL likewise describes the fuel, input, and output sections and says the leftmost non-empty input is processed first after activation: Furnace interface and upgrade guide.
What “two stacks” or “three stacks” means
A queue slot holds an ore stack; it does not mean two or three pieces are smelted simultaneously. Processing remains sequential in the documented descriptions. Queue capacity therefore saves you trips to the Furnace and lets a mining haul wait in order, while the faster Tier 2 cycle shortens the total time needed to work through that queue.
How to avoid an idle Furnace
- Load fuel before starting a large batch, rather than assuming the first few pieces will provide enough burn time.
- Use both Tier 1 input positions when you are already returning with multiple ore stacks.
- Collect output between batches so the output area is not left full.
- Keep spare fuel in a nearby chest; interruptions are more likely when a long queue outlasts the fuel you loaded.
Fuel: what works and how fuel quality matters
GPORTAL reports the following fuel-quality values. Treat these numbers as Early Access data, not permanent balancing values: fuel values and Furnace mechanics.
| Fuel | Reported quality value | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Tree trunk | 9 | Strong early option when you have plentiful wood |
| Charcoal | 6 | Useful for longer sessions once you have a dependable supply |
| Sap | 6 | Same reported quality as charcoal; use when your resource route produces it |
| Stick | 4 | Convenient supplemental fuel, but lower quality than a trunk |
| Plant fiber | 2 | Emergency or short-batch fuel; expect more frequent refueling |
Fuel quality controls how long the fuel burns and how often the Furnace needs attention. It does not change the recipe’s smelting speed. For an early base, tree trunks are the straightforward choice because they are readily available. Charcoal is worth reserving for longer sessions once you can produce or collect it reliably. If wood is scarce because you are building, use a different available fuel or postpone a large batch rather than consuming construction materials without a plan.

What the Furnace smelts and how long it takes
Each listed example converts one ore into one matching ingot. The Hytale Guide Community Wiki reports these example times: ore conversion and timing data.
| Input | Output | Reported time per ore |
|---|---|---|
| 1 copper ore | 1 copper ingot | 10 seconds |
| 1 cobalt ore | 1 cobalt ingot | 18 seconds |
| 1 adamantite ore | 1 adamantite ingot | 20 seconds |
| 1 prisma ore | 1 prisma ingot | 4 seconds |
| 1 mithril ore | 1 mithril ingot | 30 seconds |
AllThings. How describes the broader progression from copper and iron through thorium, cobalt, adamantite, and mithril, and notes that the resulting ingots feed later tools, weapons, armor, and workstation recipes: ore progression and uses. The timing examples listed here do not establish a time for every ore, so do not treat the table as a complete timing database. In particular, a missing value is not evidence that iron or thorium cannot be smelted; it means only that no exact time is stated here.
Estimating a batch
For a single ore type, multiply the per-ore time by the number of pieces in its stack, then add the time for any stacks ahead of it in the queue. For example, ten copper ore at the reported ten-second rate represents about 100 seconds of smelting time before accounting for interface delays, fuel interruptions, or balance changes in your build. A mixed queue must be calculated stack by stack because the Furnace processes one stack before moving to the next.
The same approach shows why a short prisma batch can finish quickly while a mithril haul occupies the machine much longer. Four prisma ore would be about 16 seconds at the listed rate, whereas four mithril ore would be about 120 seconds. These are arithmetic estimates from the reported per-ore values, not guarantees for every build.

Tier 1 is the basic Furnace you craft from logs and stone. Tier 2 is an upgrade intended for players processing larger or more frequent mining hauls. GPORTAL reports the following upgrade requirements and effects: Tier 2 Furnace details.
| Factor | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront construction | 6 tree logs and 6 stone at a Workbench | Requires the Tier 1 Furnace, then the listed ingot upgrade materials |
| Input queue | 2 ore stacks | 3 ore stacks |
| Smelting speed | Base recipe speed | Reportedly about 30% faster |
| Fuel interruptions | Depends on fuel quality and batch size | Still depends on fuel quality; faster processing does not remove the need for fuel |
| Best fit | Early copper and iron processing | Regular multi-ore trips and larger queues |
Tier 2 upgrade cost
- 5 copper ingots
- 5 iron ingots
- 5 thorium ingots
- 5 cobalt ingots
That is 20 ingots across four materials, with five of each type. The guide does not describe a substitute material or a reduced-cost path, so plan to supply every listed ingredient before attempting the upgrade.

When to stay with Tier 1
Keep Tier 1 when you are still establishing your base, mainly smelting early copper and iron, or rarely returning with more than two ore stacks. Spending the upgrade materials immediately can delay tools, armor, or other recipes that also need those ingots.
When Tier 2 pays off
Consider Tier 2 after regular mining trips leave you with three ore stacks or repeated batches that keep the Furnace busy. The third queue position reduces manual reloads, while the reported approximately 30% speed improvement reduces the time spent waiting through a large haul. This is a practical decision based on the listed cost and throughput benefits, not a measured performance test.

Tier choice by play pattern
| Your situation | Reasonable choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First base, occasional copper and iron | Tier 1 | The inexpensive log-and-stone recipe meets the immediate need and preserves ingots for progression. |
| Frequent mining trips with two ore stacks | Tier 1, then upgrade when queues stay full | The second slot already handles the documented queue size; upgrade value depends on how often you wait or reload. |
| Regular trips with three mixed stacks | Tier 2 | The extra position lets the full haul wait in the machine, and the reported speed increase shortens the batch. |
| Short batches but scarce wood | Use available higher-quality fuel carefully | Tier 2 does not remove fuel needs, so queue size alone may not justify the ingot cost. |
Compare the tiers on five practical axes: the 20-ingot upgrade cost, queue capacity, recipe speed, likely fuel interruptions, and the size of your usual haul. A player who mines only enough copper for one tool gains less from Tier 2 than someone returning with three full stacks of mixed ore.
A reliable smelting workflow
- Sort your haul before loading. Separate copper, iron, thorium, cobalt, and other ores so you know what is entering each queue position.
- Check your destination recipes. Keep ingots needed for tools, armor, or workstation upgrades rather than smelting every ore without a plan.
- Choose fuel for the session. Use trunks for readily available early fuel, or charcoal and sap when you want a longer burn and have a stable supply.
- Load the queue from left to right. The leftmost non-empty input is processed first in the documented interface behavior.
- Start the Furnace and verify the progress indicator. If nothing moves, check both the fuel slot and the activation control.
- Collect output periodically. This keeps the output area clear and gives you a chance to add fuel before the next stack begins.
- Record unusual results. If a current build gives a different timer, fuel value, or queue limit, rely on the live interface until the game’s documentation catches up.
Common planning mistakes
- Confusing queue capacity with parallel smelting. Three Tier 2 inputs still process in sequence, so a third slot does not triple the instantaneous output.
- Using low-quality fuel for a long queue. Sticks and plant fiber have reported values of 4 and 2, compared with 9 for a tree trunk; they can require more attention.
- Spending upgrade ingots too early. Tier 2 consumes five each of copper, iron, thorium, and cobalt, all of which may also be needed for equipment.
- Leaving finished output in place. A full output area can prevent the next result from being deposited and make a functioning Furnace appear stalled.
- Assuming every ore has the same timer. The listed examples range from four seconds for prisma to 30 seconds for mithril, so batch duration depends heavily on material.
Troubleshooting a Furnace that is not working
It will not start
- Confirm that a burnable item is in the fuel slot rather than an ore or unrelated resource.
- Confirm that at least one raw-ore input slot contains ore the Furnace recognizes.
- Press the activation or start control; filling the slots may not start the machine by itself.
- Close and reopen the interface if the progress display appears stale, then verify the queue again.
The Furnace stops partway through a batch
The most likely documented cause is insufficient fuel. Add a higher-quality fuel or reload the current fuel type. A tree trunk has a reported quality of 9 compared with 4 for a stick and 2 for plant fiber, so low-quality materials require more frequent attention.
The next stack does not begin
Check whether the previous stack is actually complete, whether fuel remains, and whether the output area is full. Tier 1 also cannot queue a third stack; its documented capacity is two input stacks. Tier 2 is required for the third queue position.
The displayed timer differs from the table
Hytale is in Early Access and balancing can change. The listed times are reported examples, not a promise that every future build will use the same values. Compare the current in-game timer with the dated references rather than assuming the Furnace is broken.

Early Access and version caveat
Hytale’s official Update 3 patch notes, posted February 17, 2026, announce that the third update arrived four weeks into Early Access and list “Added T2 Furnace” among its headline features. That timing matters: recipes, queue limits, fuel values, and processing times may be revised between builds. Before committing rare ingots to an upgrade, compare the current recipe and tooltip with the values above, especially if you are playing a later build than the one documented in these sources.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I craft a Furnace in Hytale?
Use a Workbench and select the Furnace recipe. It requires six tree logs of any accepted variety and six accepted stone resources. The listed craft time is three seconds.
Does the Furnace need a special room or foundation?
No special floor, foundation, or clearance requirement is reported. Place it in a normal base room or work area where storage and fuel are convenient.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What fuel can I use?
Reported burnable options include tree trunks, charcoal, sap, sticks, and plant fiber. Their listed fuel-quality values are 9, 6, 6, 4, and 2 respectively, although Early Access updates can change them.
Why is my Furnace not smelting after I load it?
Check that fuel and recognized raw ore are in their correct slots, then press the Furnace’s activation control. Loading both slots does not necessarily start processing automatically.
Can a Tier 1 Furnace smelt two ores at once?
No. Tier 1 can queue two ore stacks, but the documented behavior is sequential: the leftmost non-empty stack is processed first, followed by the next when fuel remains.
Best Value
What does Tier 2 add?
Tier 2 adds a third input-stack position and is reported to reduce smelting time by about 30%. The listed upgrade cost is five copper, five iron, five thorium, and five cobalt ingots.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhen should I upgrade to Tier 2?
Stay with Tier 1 for occasional early copper and iron batches. Consider Tier 2 when regular mining trips leave three stacks waiting or when repeated long queues make the extra slot and reported speed improvement worth 20 ingots.
How long does ore take to smelt?
Reported examples are 10 seconds for copper, 18 for cobalt, 20 for adamantite, 4 for prisma, and 30 for mithril per ore. Other materials may have different times, and the values can change during Early Access.
Does better fuel make ore smelt faster?
No. Fuel quality controls burn duration and interruptions. The ore recipe determines smelting speed, so higher-quality fuel mainly means fewer reloads during a batch.
What should I do if fuel runs out mid-queue?
Reload the fuel slot and check that the ore queue and output area are still available. Use trunks, charcoal, or sap for longer sessions when possible; sticks and plant fiber have lower reported quality values.
The Bottom Line
Craft the basic Furnace at a Workbench with six logs and six stone, then load fuel and ore, activate it, and collect the ingots. Tier 1 queues two stacks; Tier 2 queues three and is reported to be about 30% faster, but its 20-ingot cost makes it most useful after your mining hauls regularly fill the queue. All figures are Early Access data, so verify the live build.
