Hurwitz Mintz, a New Orleans furniture retailer, is closing after 102 years in business. Reports say the store is liquidating its inventory with storewide discounts of 60%–70%, but the closing date is open-ended and depends on how quickly stock sells. The retailer has not stated a reason for the closure.

What is closing?

The business is Hurwitz Mintz, a furniture retailer in the New Orleans area. WDSU reports that it first opened on Royal Street in the 1920s. TheStreet describes the Mintz family as having owned and operated it for three generations. TheStreet’s October 3, 2026 report and WDSU’s October 2, 2026 report both say the store is closing after 102 years.

When will Hurwitz Mintz close?

No final operating date has been announced. TheStreet reports that a store manager told WWL the date is open-ended and depends on liquidation of current inventory; WDSU’s October 2 report also gives no calendar closing date. Check directly with the store for the latest status rather than relying on an assumed deadline.

Why is the retailer closing?

Neither report gives a reason. The closure announcement, as described by TheStreet and WDSU, does not attribute the decision to financial trouble, retirement, succession, rent, or another cause.

What are the reported closing-sale terms?

TheStreet and WDSU report storewide discounts of 60%–70%. TheStreet says the sale is final and items are sold as-is, with no holds, returns, exchanges, refunds, credits, cancellations, or special orders. The promotion is reported to last while supplies last.

Those are reported sale conditions, not confirmation that a particular item is still available or that a specific discount applies to it today. The coverage does not provide item-by-item inventory. Before buying, ask the store to confirm the price, stock status, and applicable terms for the exact item; final-sale and as-is conditions leave little recourse if it is not what you expected.
