What Hunter Connect is
Hunter Connect is a college-affiliated space, not a general public professional network. Its stated purpose is to connect Hunter’s alumni with each other and with current students, so the people you can reach are mainly other Hunter graduates and Hunter students.

Alumni mentoring
The magazine encourages alumni to take part as mentors, with this line: “The gift of your time, insight and experience could prove invaluable to a student or fellow alumnus.” That is the college’s own promotional copy, not a quotation from a named person.

The sources do not describe how mentoring matches are made, how much time mentors are expected to commit, or whether the mentoring program is active now. Those are questions for the college.

The Fall 2022 magazine reported that more than 100,000 alumni had signed up to serve as counselors, advisors, and mentors when the platform launched. This is a sign-up figure the college reported in 2022. It is not a current member count, and the magazine does not connect the platform to measured job or career outcomes for users.

What the portal shows today
The Hunter Connect portal page, at the address hunterconnect.hunter.cuny.edu, is currently a login screen with a password recovery option and a beta label. That confirms the portal exists, but it does not show who may register, whether students can join, or which features are live.
How to get started
- Confirm your connection to Hunter. Determine whether you are a current student, an alumnus, or neither. The sources do not state who qualifies for access, so the college’s answer governs.
- Try the portal. Go to hunterconnect.hunter.cuny.edu. If you already have an account, sign in. If the page offers no way to register, move to the next step rather than guessing at a sign-up route.
- Contact the college. Email [email protected], the contact address listed in the 2022 magazine, and ask: who may register; whether student access is open; which of groups, discussions, job postings, and mentoring are active; and how mentoring matches are made.
- Use only what the college confirms. Once access is confirmed, use the functions the college identifies as live, and plan around those rather than the 2022 list alone.
Where a college network fits among networking routes
This is editorial context, not a sourced comparison. A college-affiliated alumni community gives you a shared institutional connection and a mentoring framework tied to Hunter. A broad professional network reaches across institutions and industries. The sources do not show that either route produces better results, so many people use both, depending on their goals.
