HUMANKIND 2 is not released yet. It is currently planned for 2027, and the official Steam listing has published Windows PC requirements that may still change during development.
The practical target is the recommended tier, especially its graphics card. A computer that only clears minimum requirements may launch the game, but the published specifications do not include frame-rate or quality guarantees.

Official HUMANKIND 2 system requirements
Amplitude Studios lists two PC configurations for HUMANKIND 2: minimum and recommended. These are the current published specifications shown on the official Steam listing, accessed October 18, 2026. Because the game remains in development, treat them as a planning baseline rather than final launch requirements.

These are the only official tiers currently published. No independent benchmark or frame-rate test has established what performance to expect at a particular resolution, graphics preset or refresh rate.

What each requirement means
Windows version
The minimum platform is a 64-bit installation of Windows 10. The recommended platform is 64-bit Windows 11. A 32-bit installation does not match either listed configuration, even if the rest of the hardware is fast enough.
To check your edition, open Settings > System > About and read Windows specifications and System type. Windows 10 or 11 should be shown as 64-bit. If your PC is still on an older release, the official listing does not identify it as supported.
Processor
Every listed processor is a four-core desktop CPU. The minimum examples are Intel Core i5-4430 and AMD FX-8350; the recommended examples move to Intel Core i7-6700 and AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.

Model names are more useful than clock speed alone. A newer processor with fewer advertised cores can still perform differently from an old quad-core, and laptop chips with the same name may use different power limits. Compare your exact model, not just “Core i5” or “Ryzen 5.” The listing does not specify a required thread count, boost frequency or processor-generation cutoff beyond the example models.
Memory
The minimum configuration calls for 8 GB of system RAM, while the recommended configuration calls for 12 GB. RAM is shared by the operating system, the game and background applications, so a machine that technically has the minimum installed can have less available when the game starts.

Check installed memory in Settings > System > About or in Task Manager > Performance > Memory. Do not confuse system RAM with graphics-card VRAM; they are separate entries and both matter for the published configurations.
Graphics card and VRAM
The graphics requirement is the clearest dividing line between the two tiers. Minimum examples are the GeForce GTX 960 with 4 GB and Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB. Recommended examples are the GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB and Radeon RX 5700 XT with 8 GB.
Match the complete GPU model and its memory capacity. A card with a similar-sounding name is not automatically equivalent, and a card with enough VRAM can still be slower than the listed example. The official listing does not provide a supported integrated-graphics model, so integrated graphics should not be assumed to meet the requirement without confirmation from a later update.
On Windows, open Task Manager > Performance > GPU to identify the active adapter. For a fuller report, press Windows + R, enter dxdiag, select the Display tab and read the device name and display memory.
DirectX
The minimum tier specifies DirectX 11 and the recommended tier specifies DirectX 12. DirectX is a software and driver interface; installing a newer runtime cannot add hardware features that the graphics card does not support.

Run dxdiag and check the System tab for the DirectX version. Also install the latest graphics driver offered for your exact GPU. The requirement table does not state whether every DirectX 12 feature level is mandatory, so do not treat the version number alone as proof of compatibility.

Both tiers list 20 GB of available space. “Available” means free capacity at installation time, not the total size of the drive. Leave additional room for Windows, save files, patches and temporary installation files; the listing does not state how large future updates will be.
Check free space in File Explorer > This PC. If the drive has less than the published amount, remove or move files before installation. The requirements do not specify SSD versus hard drive, so storage type is not an official pass/fail condition in the current listing.
How to check whether your PC qualifies
Use the following sequence before buying hardware. Record the exact values rather than relying on a general “gaming PC” label.
- Confirm the operating system: Go to Settings > System > About. Verify Windows 10 or 11 and a 64-bit system type.
- Record the CPU: In the same page, read Processor. Compare the complete model number with the minimum and recommended examples.
- Check RAM: Read Installed RAM in About or the Memory panel in Task Manager. Close unnecessary programs when judging how much is actually available.
- Identify the GPU: In Task Manager > Performance > GPU or
dxdiag, note the exact adapter model and dedicated video memory. - Verify DirectX: Press Windows + R, run
dxdiag, and confirm the reported DirectX version and display adapter. - Check capacity: Open File Explorer > This PC and verify at least the listed free space on the drive where you plan to install the game.
Evaluate the result component by component. Your PC is not “recommended” if one part is below the recommended tier, even when the other parts exceed it. Likewise, meeting one minimum item does not compensate for missing another.

Minimum versus recommended: which target should you use?
If every component meets the recommended tier
This is the strongest match to the currently published specification. It gives you the intended operating-system, processor, memory, graphics and API combination, but it still does not promise a particular frame rate because no official performance target has been published.
If your PC falls between the tiers
A system may have a recommended-class processor but only a minimum-class graphics card, or 8 GB of RAM with a recommended GPU. Such a machine cannot be classified from the table as fully recommended. It may be a reasonable candidate for testing after release, but settings and performance will depend on the final build and your exact hardware.
If one or more parts are below minimum
The official listing does not establish compatibility below the minimum examples. Avoid assuming that a newer-looking name, an integrated GPU or a DirectX-runtime update makes up the difference. Wait for updated requirements or verified testing before treating that computer as suitable.
Laptop and prebuilt comparisons
Desktop and laptop versions of a GPU or CPU can have different power limits and performance. Prebuilt manufacturers may also install single-channel memory or use an unusual cooling configuration. Compare the exact model numbers and capacities shown by Windows rather than matching only the brand family.
What to upgrade first
If you are planning an upgrade, use the published gaps to set priorities rather than buying parts at random.

- Graphics: The recommended examples move substantially above the minimum graphics tier and both recommended examples have 8 GB of VRAM. Confirm your power supply, case clearance, connectors and motherboard compatibility before selecting a card.
- Memory: Moving from the minimum memory tier to the recommended tier is a relatively direct capacity check. Verify that your motherboard has an open slot and supports the intended module size and speed.
- CPU and platform: The listed processors are older desktop models. A CPU upgrade can require a new motherboard and memory, so calculate the platform cost instead of comparing processor prices alone.
- Operating system: If your installation is not a supported 64-bit Windows version, resolve that software issue before replacing hardware. Back up important files before a major operating-system change.
- Storage: Free capacity is the immediate requirement. If the installation drive is nearly full, moving games or personal files may solve the problem without replacing the drive.
Do not buy a graphics card solely on the basis of a promised frame rate: no such target appears in the current official information.
Why the requirements may change before launch
HUMANKIND 2 is scheduled for 2027 and remains unreleased. Amplitude Studios has described it as a historical turn-based strategy game spanning ancient times to the Modern Age, with city development, trade and cultural choices. The studio has also announced opportunities for players to try the game before release, including an Insiders Program and a gameplay reveal announced for October 15, 2026.
Preview builds can expose performance issues or optimization changes that lead to revised requirements. Check the official Steam listing again when a release date, demo or test build becomes available, and install current graphics drivers before judging your system. The specifications in the table are accurate to October 18, 2026, not a guarantee that the final build will use identical requirements.

- Strong CPU but an older or integrated GPU: The graphics requirement is still unresolved; processor strength does not replace the listed graphics capability.
- Enough hardware but less free storage than listed: Clear space before installation; storage capacity is the immediate blocker.
- Correct hardware but a 32-bit Windows installation: The operating system does not match the published platform requirement.
Until launch testing is available, the safest buying decision is to compare every component with the recommended column and wait if your graphics card is below the minimum examples.
