No—Hulu says it does not work with anonymizers or proxy services, including VPNs, and its terms say Hulu content may not be used, published, or disseminated outside the United States. A VPN is not a reliable or Hulu-approved way to stream from abroad. Hulu’s rules also differ for its general streaming library and Hulu + Live TV, which has additional home-network requirements.
Can you use a VPN to unblock Hulu?
Hulu’s Help Center says, “Hulu doesn’t work with anonymizers or proxy services.” If Hulu identifies one, its guidance is to disable it before streaming. That means a VPN is not a supported workaround, and Hulu does not endorse a VPN for accessing its service. Hulu’s international-access guidance was displayed as published on November 28, 2025.

Hulu’s Terms of Use add a separate geographic restriction: “The Content may not be used, published or disseminated outside the United States.” The language appears in section 7.1 of Hulu’s Terms of Use, accessed October 7, 2026. The terms and support guidance do not establish any VPN success rate, detection rate, or reliable method for bypassing location restrictions.

Hulu describes its subscription as intended for members of a single U.S. household. Its help page says Hulu and Hulu Premium subscribers can stream within the United States, including Puerto Rico and U.S. military bases. Those are the locations stated in Hulu’s guidance; the terms separately restrict use of content outside the United States.

Hulu + Live TV has extra home-network rules
Hulu + Live TV is not governed only by the same travel expectations as the on-demand library. Hulu requires living-room devices to use the designated home network for Live TV, Cloud DVR, and Premium Add-on content. Hulu explains the rules in its home-network troubleshooting guidance and its instructions for managing a Live TV home network.

Using Live TV on a mobile device away from home
Hulu says mobile devices can stream Live TV away from home within the United States if they check in on the home network at least once every 30 days. Hulu also says a subscriber who has missed that check-in can still access the streaming library on mobile, even though Live TV access is affected. Hulu’s guidance permits up to four home-network changes in a 12-month period; this is a Hulu service rule, not an estimate of VPN performance.
Using a living-room device
A TV-connected or other living-room device needs to be on the designated home network to access the Live TV features Hulu specifies. A VPN does not replace that home-network requirement. If you have moved or changed internet providers, follow Hulu’s home-network management steps rather than trying to make a VPN appear to be your home connection.

Supported devices do not override location rules
