HubSpot to Cut About 7% of Its Workforce; CEO Says AI Efficiencies Weren’t the Driver

HubSpot announced on October 6, 2026, that it will reduce its workforce by approximately 7%, or nearly 660 employees. CEO Yamini Rangan said the cuts were not driven by AI-related efficiencies; HubSpot described them instead as part of an organizational redesign.

What HubSpot announced

In a company message published October 6, HubSpot said it would say goodbye to nearly 660 employees, representing approximately 7% of its team. Both figures are approximate, as stated by the company. HubSpot’s announcement describes the change as part of a broader effort to align the organization with its strategy.

HubSpot says it plans to organize product teams around customer outcomes rather than around individual product “Hubs,” reduce management layers, and give teams clearer ownership and authority. The company says those changes are intended to help it move faster, stay closer to customers, and focus resources on its priorities. Those are HubSpot’s stated aims, not independently verified outcomes.

Is HubSpot laying people off because of AI?

Rangan directly denied that AI-related efficiencies drove these particular cuts: “This is not driven by AI-related efficiencies.” She said the change was about aligning the organization with HubSpot’s strategy and how it needs to operate. Her message also places the redesign in the context of a strategy focused on delivering customer outcomes with AI.

Those points are not contradictory: a company can pursue AI-enabled products while saying AI-driven efficiency gains did not cause a specific workforce reduction. The CEO’s statement establishes HubSpot’s explanation for this decision; it does not independently establish every factor behind it. The Information’s October 6 report also covered the announced scale and organizational changes.

What support did HubSpot describe for departing employees?

HubSpot says arrangements vary by region and local requirements. For U.S. departing employees, the company says support generally includes:

  • 20 weeks of base pay, plus one week per year of service, capped at 30 weeks.
  • A lump-sum payment covering five months of COBRA health benefits.
  • Six months of career-transition outplacement services.

The company also says affected employees may keep their HubSpot laptops after company data is removed remotely, as well as work-from-home equipment such as monitors and keyboards. These details are from HubSpot’s announcement; the U.S. terms should not be assumed to apply in other countries.
