The Huawei Watch D3 can take blood-pressure readings from the wrist using an inflatable airbag strap, and it offers three measurement modes: a single reading, ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring (ABPM), and readings before and after exercise. Those features are real and marketed as medical-grade in the EU. What the evidence does not yet show is that the D3 produces accurate readings for every wearer. Whether it suits you depends on why you want the numbers, how well the strap fits, and whether your market supports the feature you need.
What Huawei says the D3 measures
Huawei’s UK product page lists single blood-pressure measurement, ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, and pre- and post-exercise measurements. Huawei’s September 2026 launch announcement says the D3 carries CE marking for resting blood-pressure measurement, ABPM, and before-and-after exercise measurement. Both are manufacturer statements. They tell you what Huawei has claimed and, for the CE wording, what the company says it has certified. They are not independent test results. Huawei also states that health indicators can differ by country or region, so confirm that the mode you want is enabled where you live before you buy.

| Mode | What it does | Who it is for | Key condition from Huawei |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single measurement | One reading taken on demand while seated and still | Checking a reading when you feel unwell or want a spot check | Requires the preparation and posture steps listed below |
| Ambulatory monitoring (ABPM) | Repeated readings across the day and night | People tracking patterns over time, usually with a clinician’s involvement | Battery drops sharply; Huawei’s test used 15-minute intervals |
| Pre- and post-exercise | Readings taken before and after a workout | Users who want to see how exertion affects their pressure | Huawei does not publish exercise-specific accuracy data |
Battery life depends heavily on the mode you use
Huawei’s product page gives a battery figure of up to six days under its specified typical-use profile. The same page says that with ABPM enabled at 15-minute intervals the watch lasts up to one day. These are Huawei’s own test figures under stated conditions, not guaranteed runtimes. Your battery life will depend on how often you take readings, how you use the rest of the watch, and your settings.

For ABPM, plan the day around charging. A watch that runs for a week in normal use can need a daily charge if you run continuous monitoring. Check the charging routine before you rely on ABPM for a full day of data.

How to take a reading that is worth trusting
Huawei’s support instructions for a single measurement are specific, and most reading errors trace back to skipping one of them. Follow this sequence:
- Choose the right strap and airbag size. Huawei asks you to match the size to your wrist and wear the device snugly. A loose strap affects the reading, and Huawei’s product page warns that accuracy can suffer when wrist circumference falls outside the stated range.
- Prepare for at least 30 minutes. Do not eat, drink alcohol, smoke, or exercise in the 30 minutes before measuring.
- Rest for five minutes. Sit quietly and stay relaxed before you start.
- Set your posture. Bend the elbow, turn the palm toward your chest, and support the elbow on a table. Keep the watch level with your heart.
- Keep your feet flat and uncrossed, and remain still and quiet while the measurement runs.
- Measure at the same time of day when you are tracking trends, because blood pressure varies across the day.
- Repeat if the result is unexpected. If a reading falls outside the normal range, Huawei advises resting for five minutes and measuring again, or speaking to a physician.
Where readings can go wrong
Huawei’s product page lists several conditions that can affect measurement accuracy. Treat these as the main failure points:

- 【Bluetooth Calling & Smart Notification】The smart watch with text messaging and calling features is equipped with a microphone and speaker. Sync your smartphone with the "DaFit" app

- Wrist circumference outside the range Huawei states for the strap.
- Movement during the measurement, including talking, fidgeting, or a raised or unsupported arm.
- Certain medical conditions that Huawei describes in its product warnings.
- Use alongside certain medical procedures or equipment.
- Taking a reading straight after eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, or exercising.
If a reading looks wrong, do not assume the watch is broken. First check the strap fit and your posture, then repeat the measurement after five minutes of rest. A single reading taken in poor conditions tells you little about your actual pressure.
What the certification does and does not prove
Huawei’s UK product page labels the D3 as CE-MDR certified as a medical device. The launch announcement describes CE marking for the three measurement types above. Those statements mean the product has been assessed under the EU medical device framework for the functions Huawei lists. They do not mean that every reading will match a clinical reference device, nor that the result holds for every body type, age group, or country.

Huawei’s 2024–2025 Consumer Business sustainability report gives earlier context. It lists five Chinese medical-device registration certificates held by June 2025, covering named products including the WATCH D and WATCH D2. The same report says the WATCH D2 ambulatory blood-pressure monitor and certain other named earlier products had EU MDR CE certification. The report does not list the D3 in that passage, so do not treat those certificates as evidence for the D3 specifically.
No independent accuracy study of the D3 itself is established in the sources available for this article as of October 2026. If you need validated accuracy, look for a peer-reviewed or regulator-reviewed study of the D3 that states its population, its protocol, the reference device it was compared against, and the region where it was run. Until you find one, treat the D3’s numbers as a useful trend tool rather than a clinical measurement.

Guidance on how often to measure
Huawei’s product page quotes European Society of Hypertension guidance on ambulatory monitoring: readings every 15 to 30 minutes, with at least 70 percent of attempts successful, including 20 daytime and 7 night-time readings. That is background guidance Huawei displays, not a result from a D3 study. It is useful for understanding what a complete ABPM dataset looks like, and it explains why the battery figure for ABPM matters.

The D3 makes sense if you want a wearable that records blood pressure on demand, you are comfortable following a strict measurement routine, and you can confirm that the modes you need are supported in your market. It is also a reasonable choice if you want to log trends between clinic visits and can accept charging the watch more often during ABPM.

It is the wrong tool if you need a diagnosis, want to adjust medication based on the numbers, or expect readings that match a clinic cuff without any preparation. Huawei states that the device is for reference only, that users must not diagnose or treat themselves or change medication based on readings, and that it must not be used in emergencies. Seek professional care for any medical concern.
“Ultra health conscious” describes a buyer who values data. The D3 can supply that data, but the data is only as useful as the routine behind it. A conventional upper-arm monitor, used the same way each day, remains the simpler reference for many people, and the D3 has not been shown in the available evidence to replace it.
Before you buy
- Confirm that your country supports the blood-pressure mode you need, since Huawei says feature support varies by region.
- Measure your wrist and check that it falls within the strap size range Huawei lists.
- Check the battery plan against your use. Six days in typical use and one day for ABPM at 15-minute intervals are different commitments.
- Buy from Huawei or an authorised retailer, and confirm the model is the Watch D3 before purchase.
