Huawei may raise prices on some products, but no specific increase, effective date, affected phone models, or markets have been confirmed in the reporting. The signal comes from remarks attributed to Richard Yu, Huawei’s chairman of consumer business, and is linked to rising memory and storage costs.
Is Huawei raising phone prices?
Huawei is reportedly expecting a moderate price increase, but that is not the same as a confirmed across-the-board phone price change. Android Authority reported on October 1, 2026, that Yu told Chinese media the company expected to raise product prices. The article relays the remarks through Bloomberg; it does not provide a Huawei announcement or the full Bloomberg report. Android Authority’s report

The report gives no start date, percentage or cash amount for a retail increase, and does not identify which models or markets could be affected. It therefore does not establish that every Huawei phone will cost more.

Why might prices go up?
The reported reason is higher memory and storage costs. According to Android Authority, Yu said Huawei had been absorbing added costs of about $200 and that those costs were “hurting” its “profitability very badly.” The report does not explain the accounting basis or what the $200 applies to, so it should not be read as a per-phone cost increase or as the amount Huawei plans to add to retail prices. What the Mate 90 launch does—and does not—tell us
Yu’s reported comments came alongside the Mate 90 series launch. Android Authority mentioned a special-edition model priced as high as CNY 18,999, rendered in the article as approximately $2,835, as well as a detachable camera accessory. That top special-edition price is not a price list for the full Mate 90 range, nor does it demonstrate that Huawei has already applied a general increase. Android Authority’s report
Could rising component costs affect cheaper phones too?
There is wider pressure on lower-priced smartphones, though it is separate from Huawei’s reported remarks. In an insight published September 24, 2026, Counterpoint Research forecast that component-cost pressures could mean more than 230 million fewer shipments of smartphones priced below $200 by 2030. Android Authority describes the reduction as roughly 40%. This is a forecast about shipments, not a measured decline or proof that budget phones will disappear; Counterpoint’s accessible page confirms the title, date, publisher and author, but not the forecast’s detailed methodology. What Huawei buyers should watch for
Until Huawei publishes model- and market-specific prices, the practical guide is the actual local price at the time of purchase—not the reported cost pressure or the price of one special edition. Check local availability and compare the features you need across the models you can buy. The reporting does not establish whether or when a price change will reach a particular market.
