Its familiar caveat is software: it does not include Google Play Store or Google Mobile Services. That makes it a compelling fit for people who value the screen and Huawei’s own creative tools, but a riskier choice if their daily work depends on specific Google apps.
What this review covers
This is the MatePad Pro 12-inch reviewed by Aki Ukita for Yanko Design on October 2, 2026. It is not the separate MatePad Pro 12.2 (2025), which has different specifications. Read the Yanko Design review. Huawei’s global product page identifies this model as a 12-inch Flexible OLED PaperMatte tablet. See Huawei’s global specifications.

Display and design are the main attractions
Ukita describes the screen as sharp and bright, with PaperMatte helping reduce glare while preserving color. Huawei lists a 12-inch Flexible OLED panel with 3036 × 1952 resolution, a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and peak brightness of up to 1600 nits. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

It also claims a 30% higher anti-reflection rate than the MatePad Pro 12.2 PaperMatte Edition 2025, based on its own lab comparison; the product page does not state a year for that claim. Results in practice depend on viewing conditions.

The reviewer praises the tablet’s thin, light build. Huawei lists 4.7 mm thickness and 454 g weight, while cautioning that actual measurements can vary by version and measurement method. Its stated 93% screen-to-body ratio and 3.55 mm bezels are also manufacturer measurements.
Google services are the crucial tradeoff
The tablet does not have Google Play Store or Google Mobile Services built in. That matters most when an app, sign-in method or workflow depends on Google services, so check the exact apps you need before buying rather than assuming a workaround will behave like a native installation.

Ukita reports trying GBox and Aurora as workarounds. In the reviewer’s testing, GBox did not support split-screen, while apps installed through Aurora did. This is one reviewer’s experience, not a compatibility guarantee: app behavior can differ by app, account, device and software version.
The reviewer found Huawei’s GoPaint and Notes apps useful creative and productivity tools rather than token additions, though handwriting-to-text results were imperfect in their use. Software can also vary by region: Huawei’s Mexico specifications page lists HarmonyOS 4.3, which should not be assumed to describe every market’s unit. Check Huawei México’s regional specifications.

Optional accessories change the productivity equation
Huawei lists the M-Pencil Pro, Glide Keyboard and Folio Cover as accessories; the stylus is sold separately, and keyboard or folio inclusion depends on configuration. The Glide Keyboard weighs 399 g according to Huawei and the review, a meaningful addition if portability is the priority.
Ukita found the keyboard comfortable enough for typing and liked its stylus storage, but criticized the touchpad sensitivity, single viewing angle and lack of backlight. Huawei claims the M-Pencil Pro supports over 10,000 pressure-sensitivity levels; some features require particular firmware versions and are available only in certain regions. Verify local accessory compatibility and what your chosen configuration includes.

Battery and audio: useful claims, with limits
Huawei lists a 10,400 mAh typical battery capacity and advertises up to 14.7 hours of local video playback. That playback figure comes from Huawei’s lab test at 25°C, with brightness set to 200 nits, system volume at nine bars, Huawei Video playback, location services enabled and Bluetooth disabled. Huawei notes that real-world use varies, so it is not a promise of all-day runtime for every workload.

Prices reported by the review are market-specific
Ukita’s October 2, 2026 review reports these European configuration prices. They should not be treated as current universal prices; check local listings for availability, configuration and included accessories.
| Configuration reported | Price reported in the review |
|---|---|
| 12 GB / 256 GB with Folio Cover | €1,199 |
| 12 GB / 256 GB with Glide Keyboard | €1,299 |
| 12 GB / 512 GB with Glide Keyboard | €1,449 |
The review compares the €1,199 starting bundle with a U.S. 11-inch, 256 GB iPad Pro at $1,199. That is a comparison between the review’s stated European bundle price and a U.S. product price, not a like-for-like local price comparison.
Who should consider the MatePad Pro 12-inch?
- It may suit you if a high-spec OLED screen, glare reduction, low weight and Huawei’s own note-taking or drawing apps matter more than native Google services.
- Be cautious if Google-dependent apps are essential for school or work, if you need dependable split-screen behavior across your apps, or if you expect a keyboard to offer adjustable viewing angles and a backlit layout.
- Check before committing which accessories are included in your local configuration, whether your preferred apps work as needed, and what software-support commitment applies. Ukita’s review says Huawei had not made an official statement on this model’s support duration as of publication; the Huawei product material cited here does not establish a duration.
Ukita’s verdict captures the hardware appeal: “The MatePad Pro 12" is stylish, light, and lovely to use, with a PaperMatte display that does a lot of the heavy lifting.”
