Yes—but only in the narrow physical sense. Huawei lists the 2024 MateBook X Pro at 980 g (about 2.16 lb) and 13.5 mm thick, an exceptional figure for a 14.2-inch Windows laptop with a high-resolution OLED touchscreen and Intel H-series processor. The weight is real, but “lighter than light” is marketing language, not a technical category. You give up built-in ports, some battery efficiency and thermal headroom, and potentially easy local support to achieve it.
It is also important to date the claim correctly: this is a 2024 model, not a new 2026 launch. Current buyers should compare its unusual design with newer ultraportables and verify regional availability before ordering.
What Huawei’s 980 g claim means
Huawei’s official specification lists the MateBook X Pro at 980 g, or approximately 2.16 lb, with dimensions of 310 × 222 × 13.5 mm. The figure refers to the laptop itself, not its charger, cable, sleeve or adapters. Huawei says its number comes from laboratory measurement and can vary with configuration, manufacturing process and measurement method. See the official specifications.
That distinction matters while travelling. Notebookcheck recorded a tested power supply of about 236 g, although charger weight varies by market and package. Add a USB-C hub, spare cable and protective sleeve and the complete kit can be substantially heavier than the headline number.

Why the 3:2 OLED screen matters
The 3:2 panel provides more vertical space than a conventional 16:9 laptop. Documents, web pages, code, spreadsheets and long-form editing require less scrolling, while the touchscreen is useful for mark-up and presentations. OLED supplies deep contrast and vivid color, and 120 Hz can make scrolling feel smoother; the factory setting may be 60 Hz.
Huawei’s 1,000-nit figure is an HDR peak rating, not a promise of sustained full-screen brightness during ordinary desktop work. A glossy or semi-gloss surface can still reflect windows and overhead lighting. At this resolution, Windows scaling is usually necessary. OLED also uses more power at high brightness, high refresh and HDR, and users who leave static interfaces visible for many hours should consider normal image-retention precautions.

Performance in a thin-and-light body
The Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 9 185H are Meteor Lake H-series chips, not ultra-low-power processors. That gives the MateBook unusually strong burst and multicore performance for its mass, with integrated Intel Arc graphics suitable for office work, coding, photo editing and moderate creative workloads.
The trade-off appears during sustained loads. Reviews describe fan activity, warm surfaces and lower efficiency than the weight might suggest. Android Authority describes the Ultra 9 configuration as running at a 40 W TDP, while Tom’s Guide also notes higher power draw and fan noise under demanding use. Independent impressions are configuration-specific; do not assume an Ultra 7 result applies to an Ultra 9 model or vice versa.
There is no discrete GPU, so serious 3D rendering, modern gaming and GPU compute are better served by a thicker system. Running unplugged can also reduce sustained performance and increase drain.
Ports are the clearest compromise
The official layout provides only three USB-C ports: two Thunderbolt 4 connections on the left and one additional USB-C port on the right. There is no built-in HDMI, USB-A, 3.5 mm headphone jack or SD-card reader. A physical camera privacy switch is included.

- Effectively protect device from scratch of coins, keys, ect.
- Dust-free,bubble free,one-push super easily installation.
- Olephobic hydrophobic coating maximally reduces smudges and fingerprint.
- Self-healing properties enable the film to recover from minor scratches and keep your device brand new.
- Presentations may require a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter.
- Existing USB-A drives, mice and security keys need an adapter or hub.
- Wired headphones require USB-C audio or a separate solution.
- Photographers and editors may need a card reader and external SSD.
A hub can restore functionality, but it also adds weight, another item to lose and another point of failure. The laptop’s 980 g advantage therefore does not automatically produce the lightest complete mobile setup.
Battery life: a large cell, not a guaranteed all-day result
The 70 Wh battery is substantial for a 980 g chassis, yet endurance depends heavily on OLED brightness, 60 versus 120 Hz, HDR, browser workload, Windows power mode, Wi-Fi conditions, background utilities, processor choice and battery age. Reviews indicate that the H-series Intel platform and high-resolution OLED can make battery life less exceptional than the chassis weight.
Keep three kinds of evidence separate: Huawei’s own laboratory or playback claims, a named reviewer’s standardized test and anecdotal owner reports. None is a universal runtime promise. Buyers who value predictable unplugged endurance above absolute weight should also consider efficient ARM or newer low-power Windows systems.
Everyday strengths beyond the scale
- The 3:2 screen is particularly effective for writing, coding and spreadsheets.
- The OLED panel, touch input, four microphones and six speakers create a premium media and conference experience.
- The fingerprint power button simplifies Windows sign-in.
- Huawei’s Super Device, Huawei Share, SuperHub and cross-device collaboration can connect compatible Huawei phones, tablets, monitors and laptops.
Those ecosystem tools require supported Huawei hardware and specified PC Manager versions; they are not universal Windows features. They matter most if you already use Huawei devices.

Who should buy it?
Frequent travellers and commuters
Choose it when every gram matters and a 14-inch screen is preferable to a smaller 13-inch machine. Budget for the charger, cable, hub and sleeve rather than comparing bare laptop weights.
Writers, developers and office professionals
The tall OLED workspace, fast H-series processor and low carry weight are compelling for documents, coding, browser-heavy work and moderate creation. Check whether your desk setup can live with USB-C-only connectivity.
Huawei ecosystem owners
Compatible phones, tablets and monitors can make Super Device features genuinely useful. Without that hardware, the ecosystem advantage is limited.
Who should look elsewhere?
- Anyone who needs built-in HDMI, USB-A, headphone or SD-card ports.
- Buyers who prioritize maximum battery endurance or silent operation under sustained loads.
- Gamers and workstation users who need discrete graphics.
- Customers who require easy local warranty support, especially where Huawei does not officially sell laptops.
- Buyers expecting user-upgradeable memory; verify the exact configuration and service documentation rather than assuming expandability.
Alternatives worth comparing
| Alternative | Why consider it | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Apple MacBook Air | Strong efficiency reputation, silent operation on applicable models, broad US support and mature accessories | macOS, no touchscreen, different aspect ratio and less Windows compatibility |
| Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition | Sub-1 kg positioning, business support and broader connectivity on listed configurations | Typically not the MateBook’s 3:2 high-resolution OLED experience; verify exact ports and components by region |
| LG Gram 14 | Long-running focus on low weight | Model availability and screen specifications vary; the cited Gram comparison was slightly heavier |
| Asus Zenbook | OLED options, conventional connectivity and broad regional availability | Many models exceed 1 kg |
Newer Snapdragon and Intel Core Ultra designs may offer better efficiency or support in your country. Compare the exact model, not just the family name.

Buying it safely in 2026
The 2024 MateBook X Pro remains a legitimate design achievement, but availability is regional. The available global and regional pages do not establish a current official US direct-sales listing for this exact model. Before ordering, verify:
- That Huawei or an authorized retailer officially sells the exact CPU, memory, storage and color in your country.
- Warranty length, return rights, local repair access and replacement-part availability.
- Keyboard layout, Windows licensing region, charger plug and included cable.
- Whether the seller is importing the unit and how firmware, service and returns are handled.
- The total travel weight after adding the charger and the USB-C accessories you actually need.
Do not treat a marketplace import as equivalent to a supported local purchase, and do not reuse an old 2024 launch price as a current recommendation. Huawei’s regional product page is here.
Verdict
The MateBook X Pro 2024 earns “lighter than light” as a description of its physical design: 980 g for a 14.2-inch OLED touchscreen, 70 Wh battery and H-series Intel processor is genuinely remarkable. It is not a promise of compromise-free ownership. Ports, adapters, sustained thermals, OLED power demand, upgrade questions and regional support all matter as much as the number on the scale.
Buy it when minimum laptop weight and the 3:2 OLED experience outrank battery efficiency and built-in connectivity—and only after confirming an authorized regional configuration. Choose a MacBook Air, ThinkPad X1 Carbon, LG Gram, Zenbook or newer efficient Windows model when support, endurance, ports or sustained quiet performance matter more.
