Then verify that the selected screen or print stylesheet actually applies the font. Html2pdf.app renders with headless Chromium, and its documentation notes that fonts, resources, CSS media mode, and JavaScript timing can affect the result.
Why Hindi can render in your browser but not in the PDF
Your browser may already have a suitable local font cached or installed, while the remote conversion environment may not. A page can also look correct when you are logged in because your browser can access session-protected font files that the conversion service cannot. Finally, print styles can differ from screen styles, and a PDF may be generated before asynchronously loaded fonts are ready.
Html2pdf.app says it uses headless Chromium. Its documentation identifies available fonts and resources, CSS media mode, and JavaScript load timing as factors that can affect output. It documents loading Google Fonts or self-hosted web fonts, but does not guarantee that the font names it lists—NotoSans and NotoSerif—include Devanagari glyphs in its deployed environment. Do not treat those names alone as proof that Hindi will render correctly. See the HTML2PDF.app documentation.
Fix Hindi text in this order
- Confirm the source text. Check that the HTML contains the intended Devanagari characters, not missing or substituted characters. Keep the document in UTF-8; this is a general diagnostic step, not a specific html2pdf.app guarantee.
- Choose a Devanagari-capable font explicitly. Apply it to the Hindi text and any relevant elements. Avoid relying only on a generic fallback or an undocumented assumption about installed fonts.
- Make the font available to the conversion service. Load it through a Google Fonts stylesheet or a self-hosted web font declared with
@font-face. The stylesheet and font files need to be publicly reachable without authentication, session-only cookies, or firewall restrictions. A URL that works only in your logged-in browser may fail in the conversion environment. - Allow asynchronous loading to finish. Html2pdf.app’s
waitForparameter accepts 0–10 seconds and defaults to 0. Increase it if the page loads its font or content asynchronously; there is no documented universal wait value that works for every page. - Match the CSS media mode to your styles. The
mediaparameter acceptsscreenorprintand defaults toscreen. Check that the chosen mode includes both the Hindi font declaration and visible text styles. - Inspect a fresh PDF. Test representative Hindi text and check conjuncts, matras, punctuation, line breaks, and whether the text is selectable or searchable. If it still fails, reduce the page to a minimal example and check font requests and browser console or resource errors before changing unrelated PDF settings.
Load a Devanagari-capable web font
For a Google Font, add a stylesheet link to the HTML being converted and set the font on the Hindi content. For a self-hosted font, use @font-face and a font URL the conversion service can reach. The example below uses Google Fonts; verify that the exact family and weights you request support the characters in your document, and confirm the stylesheet is accessible from outside your own session.

Set waitFor and media in the conversion request
Html2pdf.app exposes waitFor and media as conversion options. Set a nonzero wait when your page loads fonts or text asynchronously, and choose the media mode whose CSS you want rendered. The service documents a 0–10 second range for waitFor, a default of 0, and a screen default for media. Check the current option names and request format in the official documentation and cURL examples.

Once the font and styles are reachable, request a PDF with the equivalent of waitFor set long enough for your page and media set to screen or print as appropriate. Do not assume that increasing the wait alone fixes a blocked font URL or a missing print-style declaration.
Troubleshoot common symptoms
