hpzjpp01.dll Errors: Repair HP Printer Software on Windows

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

hpzjpp01.dll is an HP printer-software file named SDIPrintPath DLL. If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the HP printer package that uses it rather than downloading the DLL separately.

The file is associated with Hewlett-Packard printer software, especially older HP Deskjet and related driver packages. It is not a normal Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET file.

hpzjpp01.dll identification

Item Details
File hpzjpp01.dll
Description SDIPrintPath DLL
Associated software SDIPrintPath
Publisher Hewlett-Packard
Category Third-party application and printer software
Normal repair Reinstall or repair the complete HP printer package
Standard Windows DLL No

Older HP packages may place the file inside an HP installation directory, such as an HP hpz or glue folder. The correct location depends on the printer model and installer. Do not assume it belongs in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Why Windows reports hpzjpp01.dll errors

Common messages include:

  • “The program can’t start because hpzjpp01.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “This application failed to start because hpzjpp01.dll was not found.”
  • “Error loading hpzjpp01.dll.”
  • “Failed to load hpzjpp01.dll.”
  • “The specified module could not be found.”
  • “hpzjpp01.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “The program is not designed to run on Windows.”

These messages usually mean that an HP printer installer, utility, startup component, or print-related program is looking for a file that was removed, quarantined, damaged, or installed in the wrong package directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that hpzjpp01.dll itself is absent. The DLL may be present while another file it depends on is missing. That is why replacing one DLL often fails.

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact HP printer package

This is the safest and most likely solution, particularly when the error appears during printer setup, after an HP software update, or when an old HP printer utility starts with Windows.

Step 1: Identify the printer model

Check the label on the printer, its control panel, or the existing printer entry in Windows.

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Select Bluetooth & devices.
  3. Select Printers & scanners.
  4. Look for the affected HP printer.
  5. Record the complete model name, including any number or suffix.

Do not install a package for a similar Deskjet or Officejet model. HP printer packages are model-specific, and a package for another printer may not contain compatible files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 2: Remove the damaged HP software

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Search for HP, Hewlett-Packard, or the printer model.
  5. Select the related HP printer software.
  6. Choose Uninstall.
  7. Follow the removal wizard.

On Windows 10, use Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

If the software does not appear in Settings:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type appwiz.cpl.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select the HP printer software.
  5. Choose Uninstall.

Also remove the old printer:

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select the affected printer.
  3. Choose Remove.
  4. Confirm the removal.

Restart Windows after uninstalling. This clears installer processes and old print components that may still be loaded.

Step 3: Download the correct HP package

Open HP’s official Software and Driver Downloads page and select the exact printer model and Windows version. Choose the available package described as Full feature, Full solution, or Basic driver.

A full package is preferable when the error involves hpzjpp01.dll because it restores the printer utilities and supporting files as a group. A basic driver may provide printing support without the older HP scanning, maintenance, or setup tools.

  • WIRELESS PRINTING – Stay connected with our most reliable dual-band Wi-Fi, which automatically detects and resolves connection issues

Run the downloaded installer, allow it to make changes, and follow its connection instructions. Connect the USB cable only when the installer requests it. For a network printer, make sure the printer and computer are connected to the same network.

Restart Windows when the installer finishes.

How to confirm the repair worked

  • The HP installer completes without a missing-DLL message.
  • The printer appears under Printers & scanners.
  • A test page prints.
  • The HP utility opens without requesting hpzjpp01.dll.
  • The error does not return after restarting Windows.

If the same error returns immediately, uninstall the HP package again and check whether Windows Security quarantined one of the installer files.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine

A security scan may have removed the DLL or another HP component. Do not restore a file simply because its name begins with hp.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review detections from the time the error began.
  5. Expand any detection associated with the HP printer software.
  6. Note the original file path and detection name.

Only consider restoring a quarantined file when all of the following are true:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • It came from a legitimate HP installer.
  • You recognize the printer package and original path.
  • The installer was obtained from HP.
  • The file has credible installer provenance or a valid digital signature.
  • A current scan does not find a broader infection.

Microsoft explains the Protection History workflow in its Windows Security Protection History guidance.

The safer approach is usually to remove the damaged HP package and download a fresh complete installer from HP. If Windows Security repeatedly removes the same component, do not keep allowing it. Scan the installer and computer first.

Fix 3: Repair or remove an obsolete HP startup component

Sometimes the printer has already been removed, but an HP utility remains registered to start with Windows. That leftover program can continue requesting hpzjpp01.dll.

Check installed applications

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Search for HP and Hewlett-Packard.
  3. Uninstall software belonging to the removed printer.
  4. Restart Windows.

Check startup applications

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Startup apps.
  3. Look for an HP printer utility.
  4. If the printer is obsolete and the utility is no longer needed, right-click it.
  5. Select Disable.
  6. Restart Windows.

Disabling a startup entry prevents it from launching, but uninstalling the associated software is cleaner when the printer is no longer used.

Check Task Scheduler

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type taskschd.msc.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select Task Scheduler Library.
  5. Look for tasks clearly associated with the old HP printer software.
  6. Review the Actions tab before disabling anything.
  7. Disable only a task that belongs to removed or obsolete HP software.

Do not delete unrelated Microsoft or security tasks.

Fix 4: Install a Windows built-in printer driver

If HP no longer provides a current package for the printer, remove the obsolete HP utility and try the driver already included with Windows.

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select Add device.
  3. Wait for Windows to search.
  4. If the printer is not found, select Add manually.
  5. Choose the appropriate connection method.
  6. Follow the wizard to install the printer.

A built-in driver may restore basic printing but may not include HP scanning, ink-level tools, special media settings, or maintenance functions. If the printer works with the Windows driver and the old HP utility is no longer needed, the hpzjpp01.dll error should stop.

Fix 5: Update or reinstall the printer driver

A recent driver change, failed update, or incorrect package can leave the HP software incomplete.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Remove the device in Device Manager

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Printers, Print queues, or Universal Serial Bus controllers, depending on how the printer is connected.
  4. Right-click the affected HP device.
  5. Select Uninstall device.
  6. If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
  7. Confirm and restart Windows.

Do not remove unrelated printers or USB devices.

After restarting, run the correct HP installer again. If Windows automatically reinstalls a basic printer driver, you can still install the full HP package afterward.

When manually checking drivers, remember that 32-bit and 64-bit files are not interchangeable. Public catalogue entries for this file disagree about architecture and other technical details. Let the exact HP installer select the correct files for your printer and Windows installation. Do not place a 32-bit or 64-bit copy in both system folders.

If you are manually checking for a driver update across several devices and want to avoid identifying each stale package yourself, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show what needs attention; its repair and driver installation features require the full version. For hpzjpp01.dll, reinstalling the exact HP printer package remains the definitive fix.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change

System Restore is useful when the error began directly after installing, updating, or removing HP printer software.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type rstrui.exe.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Choose a restore point from before the printer software change.
  6. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  7. Review the changes.
  8. Select Next, then Finish.

System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can reverse applications, drivers, and system settings. Microsoft provides additional details in its System Restore instructions.

After the restore completes, do not immediately reinstall the same damaged HP package. Obtain a fresh package for the exact model first.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC

DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a missing third-party HP DLL, so use them when other Windows files are also failing or Windows servicing appears damaged.

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Wait for it to finish. Then run:

sfc /scannow

Restart Windows after both commands complete.

DISM repairs the Windows component image, while SFC checks protected system files. Microsoft documents these commands in its guides for repairing a Windows image and using System File Checker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If SFC reports that it repaired files but the HP error remains, reinstall the HP printer package. That result is expected when the missing file belongs to third-party printer software.

If you repeatedly run DISM and SFC without knowing which Windows component changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan and identify system issues; its repair functions are performed by the full version. It does not replace the need to reinstall the HP package that owns hpzjpp01.dll.

Should you register hpzjpp01.dll with regsvr32

Usually, no.

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a COM registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose missing-DLL repair command. Microsoft describes its purpose in the regsvr32 documentation.

There is no verified evidence that hpzjpp01.dll is a COM or ActiveX server that needs manual registration. Running this command:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
regsvr32 hpzjpp01.dll

may produce an entry-point error, an architecture error, or another message. It does not restore missing dependencies and does not reinstall the HP printer package.

Use the HP installer instead.

What not to do

Do not download hpzjpp01.dll from a random DLL website. An isolated download can contain malware, belong to the wrong HP package, use the wrong architecture, or have a version that does not match the other printer files.

Do not copy the file into:

C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64

Do not copy it into every application folder and do not edit the registry to point Windows toward it. Microsoft explains that DLL search behavior can allow an untrusted file in a searched directory to load as part of an application. Its DLL security guidance is the reason application-owned DLLs should remain with their trusted software package.

Manual restoration is appropriate only when an administrator extracts the file from the exact, trusted HP installer and knows the original package path. Even then, rerunning the complete installer is safer.

If the error says “not designed to run on Windows”

Treat this as a damaged or incompatible binary, not a registration problem.

  1. Uninstall the affected HP software.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Download the package for the exact printer model and Windows version.
  4. Install it again.
  5. If no supported HP package exists, remove the obsolete utility and try the built-in Windows printer driver.

Do not select an arbitrary 32-bit or 64-bit DLL based on a catalogue listing. The package installer must determine which files belong with the printer software.

Frequently asked questions

Is hpzjpp01.dll a Windows system file?

No. It is an HP printer-software DLL associated with SDIPrintPath. It should not normally be restored from Windows installation media or copied into a Windows system directory.

Which HP printers use hpzjpp01.dll?

Historical HP Deskjet and related printer packages contain the file, but it is not present in every HP printer package. The exact model and software release determine whether it is included.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is hpzjpp01.dll malware?

The filename alone does not prove that a file is safe. Check its source, path, digital signature, and antivirus results. A file from a legitimate HP installer is materially different from an identically named file downloaded from an unknown source.

Where should the file be restored?

Restore it through the exact HP printer installer. The original location is package-dependent and may be inside an HP installation directory rather than a Windows system folder.

Do I need Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?

Not merely because the file ends in .dll. There is no verified basis for treating hpzjpp01.dll as one of those runtime files. Repair the HP printer package first.

What if reinstalling HP software does not fix the error?

Check whether the message names another missing module, whether Windows Security quarantined a dependency, and whether an old HP startup task remains. Remove obsolete HP utilities, restart, and install the package for the exact printer model.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I keep using the printer without HP software?

Possibly. Windows may provide a built-in driver that supports basic printing. Advanced HP features may be unavailable, but removing obsolete software can eliminate the hpzjpp01.dll startup error.
