In HP’s September 4, 2026 announcement, the newest pair is the 16-inch RTX Spark OmniBook Ultra and the 14-inch RTX Spark OmniBook X: HP positions the Ultra for more demanding AI and creative work, and the smaller X for creators and developers who value mobility. Those are HP’s intended-use descriptions, not independent test results.
Which one should you buy?
For the newly announced RTX Spark models, consider the OmniBook Ultra 16 if you want a larger screen for demanding creative or AI work. Consider the OmniBook X 14 if a smaller, more portable laptop better fits your day. Then compare the exact configuration and local price before deciding: HP has not established that one is universally faster, lasts longer in real-world use, or offers better value.

If you are shopping among other OmniBook configurations, compare specific model numbers and regional listings. An Ultra 14 and an X 16, for example, are not the same-size products, and the names alone do not identify their processor or graphics.
What do “Ultra” and “X” mean?
They are family names, not fixed hardware tiers. HP’s support pages list OmniBook Ultra 14 models with Intel processors as well as a separate Snapdragon X2 family. OmniBook X models also span sizes and platforms: HP lists X 16 configurations with Intel or Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, including Snapdragon X2 models. HP cautions that components can vary by country and configuration.

What to check before choosing a configuration
Size and portability
The announced Ultra 16 offers a larger display area; the announced X 14 is the smaller option. That distinction applies to this pair, not every laptop in either family.

Processor, graphics, and software compatibility
Compare the processor and graphics listed for the exact SKU, then check compatibility with the applications and peripherals you rely on. Other OmniBook configurations include Intel Core Ultra, Snapdragon X-series chips, and different graphics options. For example, HP lists an optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 in some X 16 Intel models, while an X 16 Snapdragon X2 specification lists Qualcomm Adreno graphics. These are examples from other configurations, not specifications for the newly announced RTX Spark pair.
Display, memory, and storage
Do not infer specifications from the family name. HP’s February 2026 Intel Ultra 14 page lists a 14-inch 3K OLED touch display with up to 120 Hz; its Snapdragon X2 Ultra 14 page lists 2K OLED options. Display and memory details vary across models, so verify the complete configuration rather than relying on a family-level description.

Price and availability
HP said the RTX Spark Ultra 16 was expected at HP.com and Best Buy “this fall,” and the X 14 at HP.com and other retailers “this fall.” At announcement, HP had not provided prices, saying it would share them closer to availability. Check current listings in your country for the actual price, retailer, and configuration; the announcement does not establish current stock or a local price.
How to interpret HP’s battery and charging figures
For the announced models, HP claims up to 17 hours for the Ultra 16 and up to 15 hours for the X 14. HP says these estimates are based on continuous FHD video playback at 200 nits, with wireless on but not connected, and that actual results vary by configuration and use. They are manufacturer claims under stated conditions, not guaranteed runtimes or independent head-to-head results.

Make the decision at the SKU level
- Choose the size you prefer. For the announced pair, decide whether the 16-inch Ultra or 14-inch X is the better fit for your work and carrying needs.
- Match the platform to your applications. Confirm the processor, graphics, and software compatibility on the exact listing.
- Verify the full configuration. Check display, memory, storage, ports, wireless, and any other requirements that matter for your workload.
- Compare local listings. Confirm the model number, included adapter, availability, and price in your region.
- Use battery figures carefully. Compare the stated test conditions with your typical workload; do not treat “up to” figures as a promise of everyday runtime.
Verdict
For the newly announced RTX Spark pair, the Ultra 16 is the screen-size choice for buyers drawn to HP’s more demanding-work positioning, while the X 14 is the more compact option. For any other OmniBook comparison, there is no sound answer from the series names alone: choose between exact SKUs using their specifications, compatibility, local availability, and price.
