For the HP OmniBook 5 16 (16-bc1000), use HP’s official Intel-series repair video and the support materials for your exact product number before opening the laptop. HP’s video covers base-enclosure removal, the battery, memory modules and an M.2 SSD, but those chapters do not prove every 16-bc1000 configuration has the same parts. Storage is the clearest potential upgrade; verify your specific unit before buying parts or attempting service.

Find the correct service information for your laptop

The 16-bc1000 name identifies a family, not necessarily one identical configuration. Locate the complete product number on the laptop or in its system information, then use HP’s 16-bc1000 specifications and support materials to check the information for your unit. HP’s maintenance and service guide is labeled for the related 16-bc1xxx family; the available material does not establish that every part detail applies to every 16-bc1000 SKU.

HP’s OmniBook 5 16-inch Intel-series repair video is the most useful visual starting point. Its first service chapter covers base-enclosure removal, followed by chapters for the battery cable, battery, memory modules and M.2 SSD. Use the video alongside service information that matches your complete product number.

What can be upgraded or replaced?

Storage: check for an M.2 2280 NVMe drive

The related 16-bc1xxx service guide lists a 1 TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4×4 NVMe value SSD option for use in most regions and describes SSD removal. This supports checking for an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD when considering a replacement; it does not establish a universal drive specification or maximum capacity for every 16-bc1000 configuration. Before ordering, confirm the installed drive and compatible part information against your complete product number and regional service materials.

Memory: verify the exact configuration

The repair video includes a memory-modules chapter, but that alone does not establish the memory type, slot count, maximum capacity or upgradeability of your particular laptop. Check the exact SKU’s specifications and service information rather than assuming its RAM can be upgraded.

Battery and other parts: service coverage is not an upgrade promise

HP’s video also shows service coverage for components such as the wireless LAN module, fan, heat sink, touchpad, system board and display parts. This is not evidence that those components are intended as upgrades, nor does it establish compatible replacement part numbers for your exact unit.

How to approach opening the base

  1. Identify the complete product number. Use it to find the specifications, support materials and service information for your configuration.
  2. Open HP’s repair video and start with “Base enclosure removal.” Follow the visual procedure for the Intel series, checking that it matches your laptop before proceeding.
  3. Consult the model-specific service material for details the video or chapter listing does not establish. The available information here does not verify screw count or locations, pry points, opening-tool requirements or a complete step-by-step sequence, so do not guess these details.
  4. Confirm the part before removing or ordering anything. For storage, compare the installed drive and documented compatibility with your exact SKU; for memory or other components, check the relevant configuration-specific service information.

HP warns that improper installation or replacement could damage the device or void warranty coverage, and advises checking the warranty before replacing parts. See HP’s repair-video guidance and review your warranty status before service.

What the available specifications do—and do not—confirm

For the related 16-bc1xxx family, HP’s service-guide information supports an M.2 2280 PCIe 4×4 NVMe SSD option and an SSD removal procedure. HP’s video confirms that the Intel-series repair material includes memory-module and battery chapters. The available excerpts do not confirm a universal SSD capacity ceiling, identical internals across all 16-bc1000 configurations, or RAM upgrade specifications for every SKU. Use the complete product number to resolve those questions for your laptop.
