The MacBook Neo is the better fit if you want macOS, use an iPhone, prefer a 13-inch laptop, or want the lower published U.S. starting price. Choose the HP OmniBook 5 14 AI PC if you need Windows or want a 14-inch OLED screen. That is a fit-based recommendation from announced specifications—not a verdict from matched hands-on tests. The HP model discussed here is the newly announced 14-inch version expected in the U.S. in October 2026, not every laptop sold under the OmniBook 5 name.

Which one should you buy?
Choose MacBook Neo if you want macOS or iPhone continuity
- Your work, school, or personal apps require macOS, or you prefer Apple’s operating system.
- You already use an iPhone and value features Apple documents for connecting Mac and iPhone.
- You want a 13-inch laptop or the lower published U.S. starting price.
Apple documents Mac/iPhone continuity features, making the ecosystem a practical reason to choose Neo for some iPhone owners; how much that matters depends on your devices and habits. Apple’s MacBook Neo page
Choose the HP OmniBook 5 14 if Windows or a larger OLED matters more
- You need Windows for required software, workplace systems, or school tools.
- You prefer a 14-inch screen and want the launch model’s reported 1920×1200 OLED panel.
- You would rather wait for HP’s October 2026 U.S. launch and compare a specific configuration with Neo.
HP described the model as a laptop for work, study, and entertainment. Its senior vice president and division president of Consumer Personal Systems, Samuel Chang, said the design brings together “premium design and immersive experiences with a colorful OLED display in an incredibly portable package.” That is HP’s vendor description, not an independent assessment. Compare the screens without confusing launch and future options
The HP model expected in October 2026 is reported to launch with a 14-inch, 1920×1200 OLED display. Tom’s Hardware reports a 2.56-pound weight for this model; that is a reported specification, not a measured comparison with Neo. A higher-resolution 2560×1600 OLED touch option is planned for March 2027, so do not assume it will be available on October launch units. Tom’s Hardware launch report
MacBook Neo has a 13-inch Liquid Retina display rated at 500 nits by Apple. The panel types, dimensions, and listed specifications differ; the published information does not establish which display will look better to you in person. If OLED, touch input, screen size, or resolution is decisive, check the exact HP SKU and—if possible—view both machines before choosing. Apple specifications

- 【 Intel Core 7 150U Processor】It is a high-end notebook CPU based on the Raptor Lake-U Refresh (RPL-U) series (Alder Lake architecture), which was introduced in January 2024. The CPU offers 2 performance cores (P-cores, Golden Cove architecture) and 8 efficiency cores (E-cores, Gracemont architecture). The P-cores support hyperthreading (therefore 12 threads together) and clock from 1.8 to 5.4 GHz. The E-cores clock from 1.2 - 4 GHz and should offer comparable performance to old Skylake cores.

Transform your content with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 178-degree wide-viewing angles. Make taking notes, sketching, and editing easier by rotating the screen to tablet or tent mode. Multitouch-enabled, IPS (in-plane switching), edge-to-edge glass.
- 【Other features】Intel Graphics,Microsoft Copilot,Tuned stereo speakers,HP Audio Boost,HP 5MP IR Camera with HDR Switch, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 11 Home OS.
Battery claims are not a fair head-to-head comparison
HP advertises up to 42 hours for the OmniBook 5 14 in continuous local FHD video playback at 200 nits, with wireless on but not connected. Apple’s up-to-16-hour figure comes from separate web or video tests over Wi-Fi, with additional test conditions stated by Apple. Because the workloads and methods differ, these maximums cannot show which laptop lasts longer in everyday use. HP’s test conditions; Apple’s test conditions

Compare the actual memory and storage
Reported HP launch configurations include Core 5 320 or Core 7 350 processors, 8 GB or 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. A 12 GB memory option and 1 TB storage option are planned for November 2026. These reported future and launch options do not establish what a particular store will stock, so verify the listing and delivery date. Tom’s Hardware launch report

Apple’s announcement identifies the Neo’s A18 Pro chip, 8 GB unified memory, and 256 GB baseline. Compare the configuration you can actually buy—not just the base price—against the HP SKU you are considering. Apple announcement
Check what your peripherals need
HP’s announcement describes dual full-function USB-C ports, but verify the final configuration’s port list before assuming a particular display or accessory will work without an adapter. Apple lists two USB-C ports—USB 3 and USB 2—and a headphone jack; only the left USB 3 port supports external displays. If you use USB-A accessories, HDMI, card readers, or an external monitor, check the connection requirements and whether you will need a hub. HP announcement; Apple specifications

What is not established yet
The available product information supports a comparison of announced features, prices, and test claims. It does not establish a winner for real-world performance, battery life, keyboard comfort, thermals, build quality, or long-term reliability: no matched independent test of the newly announced HP model against MacBook Neo is established here. HP’s expected October 2026 release also means its final retail availability and configuration mix should be checked when shopping. For the HP, rely on the retailer’s listing for the specific SKU; for both laptops, check live U.S. pricing, since starting prices do not establish discounts or current inventory.
